Anyone watch the ESPN 2 hour Lance documentary?

I thought it was really good
He now owns what he did and the reality that if you didn’t dope you had zero chance seems to soften the historical blow

He is lucky that he had a great investment mgr that got him in pre ipo on a lot of tech startups so the whole thing didn’t destroy him financially

He has a pretty cool podcast series and is hell of a good interviewer

Looking forward to the part two this Sunday

“everybody else cheats” is a pretty lame justification even when it’s true. And I would question whether he had a smart money manager or if his celebrity status gave him access to opportunities that weren’t available to other people.

I agree. I say two divisions, dopers and clean. If you get caught doping in the clean, the fine is 100 million or death if you  can't pay.

I’m a big cycling fan since the 80’s and it’s nearly impossible to find a single pro that raced the TdF from 1990 thru 2010 that did not dope
Lance didn’t start it and they did it after he retired
Lance brought a higher level of prep to the tour than had ever been done before.  Teams didn’t pre ride stages before he started that.  Even with everyone doping he trained harder than everyone else.  He spent more t8me dialing in his bike and aero set up for time trials.
The team tactics also were better than in the past
The Tour that Landis won was re awarded to whomever came in 2nd Óscar Pereiro who later became a pro footballer as the say in Europe.  The 7 Tours Lance won were not ever re awarded to someone else because they couldn’t find anyone to give them to that was clean


Was he a bully?  Yes the Patron of the Tour has always been a bully except for Lemond who was kind of a pussy.  Lemond got lucky the French guy choked in the Final TT.  Lemond never took control as the Patron.   Look at Hinault he was a total prick and he was likely doping his ass off but there was no testing back then

Lance didn't just dope: what he did has been characterized as racketeering by others who know more than I do.  Armstrong destroyed the career of Christophe Bassons, an outspoken anti doping rider on the pro circuit.  I don't see remorse from him.

His cancer charity doesn't exonerate him.  No effs to give about Lance.

There was a 60 Minutes piece on him a few years back.  One of his teammates, Tyler, Taylor, something like that was under the bus that Lance drove.

Lance is a cheater.  He let down a lot of people, regardless of whether "everyone else was doing it".  And, as others have noted, he took anyone down in his way....The Patron of the Tour was while they were on the bikes...not off like Lance did.  A true champion is a gentleman out of the ring, so to speak. He and all dopers should be stripped of their crowns/titles.  Clemons, McGuire, Bonds, all of them.  Their records should be disregarded and they should not be allowed in the Hall of Fame. Period.  Doping is cheating. If it is allowed, condoned or disregarded, it ruins the essence of sport.    

Cycling is a team sport, like baseball, football, etc.

IMO who actually wins is meaningless. The kids idolize those guys and the sport. The message they get is more important.
