I saw so many preteen kids in Carinthia last year, it really looked like a casual fun place. Even a non park guy like me can find a feature to hit (I stay away from rails and boxes but love small to medium jumps and hits). The big jump is fucking big though! Kudos to whoever can fly on that thing. |

No wonder snoloco "is not happy". That place sounds AWFUL.

In all fairness a 12yo kid all dressed up in ski gear prolly doesn't look like a 12yo kid.

Mount Snow gets a lot of families. The pretreens you see are all with their families, but split up to go ride the park. These people are usually more dedicated to the sport and better behaved than those whose parents just dropped them off to get rid of them.

Surprising given the proximity to Boston (Masshole alert)

IMO, the worst of that lot head up to Loon.

Mount Snow, Stratton, and Okemo serve the CT and Western Mass markets the most. They get some from Albany and Boston, but ask most people on the lift where they're from and they'll say CT. Mount Snow serves the more middle class sector of that market, while Stratton and Okemo cater to the rich. While Stratton and Okemo are both luxury resorts, Mount Snow basically provides a good, but not luxury skiing experience. They have everything you need for a good ski day (snowmaking, grooming, good lifts, adequately sized lodges), but no base village or million dollar homes lining the slopes halfway up the mountain.

I live in NJ but choose to Drive to Gore every weekend to Ski. The main reason is the people at Creek and down state are so bad on average that is just kills the ski vibe.
One year I had a pass for creek 10 years ago and only used it from 8:30 till 11am then I just left. I would rather drive 8 hours during a weekend to ski at a place like Gore then drive 2 hours total to ski the crap at Mountain Creek. And those racers whose parents drive those fancy cars get creamed by NY State Trained racers from Gore most of the time. However, my son may end up playing B-Ball and guess what I will have to revisit MC if that happens and eat my hat :(
On piste is better then no piste

MC's race team is really weak, and no, the car their parents drive has absolutely no bearing on how well the team does.
Do you drive 8 hours in one day for a day trip at Gore? I won't do that every weekend, but I will on occasion to ski Gore or Mount Snow instead of Hunter. Hunter is 1:45 away, so it's a very easy day trip.

What is an average day at MC for skier visits and how much terrain is there? In my opinion crowded terrain ruins the experience. By bad are you saying the level of skiing skills or the quality of the people themselves? I'm skeptical of claims that people from one area are better or worse than people from another area. Does snoloco become a different person when he is at Gore vs when he is skiing Mountain Creek?

Creek gets 8-10k on busy days. They have only 150 acres. Hunter gets about the same, but has 250 acres. I think Mount Snow will get about 12-15k on a busy day, but is over twice the size of Hunter. They also have a massive lift capacity. 15 lifts total, 1 high speed 6-pack bubble, 3 HSQ, 1 FGQ, 6 triples, 4 doubles.

If you're trying to get to Okemo from NYC this weekend, this is an option.

This is obviously a commercial post, since you chose "skedaddle" as your username. slick. I don't think anyone mentioned Okemo at all, and if you knew anything about Snoloco, you would know that HE FUCKING HATES OKEMO. I nominate your post for deletion. ovrride.com has you beat anyway.... |
I don't hate Okemo. I don't like it as much as their competitors, so I'd only go there for free, or if I had some other motive.
Not sure how MC does in comparison to their competitors which are all in PA. Shawnee was a bit underwhelming, but I haven't tried Camelback, Blue, or JFBB (which is a Peak Resort, so I get a discount).

That was my point. Sno is the same person no matter where he goes.
Buh bye skedaddle. Skunkape I edited your post to remove the link.

I've only skied Mountain Creek a couple times but my experience jives with everybody else here. I decided a long time ago i don't fit in there. Camelback is a better alternative. Still way too much orange fencing for my tastes but its a normal mountain. The more I think about it the more MC is a mystery to me. There does seem to be a cultural difference.

In the past, I went for quantity a lot, but I'm starting to go for quality more this year. I'm about 20 days behind this season than I was last season. However, my non MC days arent down an all.
Mountain Creek has been ridiculously crowded and is skiing very poorly this year. My favorite section is Bear Peak, and they rent it out to racing nearly every single day. The attitude of the park kids got far worse, and that horrible "gondola" lift is even more annoying each time I ride it, so avoiding that means avoiding the only open somewhat "steep" terrain (which would be a blue anywhere else). At the rate we're going, they're not going to make it far into March. There are trails with about a 6 inch base and it's going to be 50 this weekend and in the 40's every day from here on out.
