You have to love surveys for their oddness. The #10 "favorite destination ski village," Quebec City, actually has a population of over half a million people. It is a beautiful and historic city but hardly qualifies as a village.

Glad to see Jay Peak didn't make it to the grooming or snowmaking list, I would have been sore dismayed.

These surveys are laughable . Some of these so called "resorts" aren't ! And calling Quebec a ski village is ludicrous.

C'mon Bill get real

These surveys are so ridicuous, it's hard to even comment.

Bretton Woods has the #1 view in the East.  Hands down.  No competition.
What a ridiculous opinion! Wildcat and Cannon both have better views, in my opinion. Much more in your face.

But these surveys are just that: opinion. And I am being facetious by calling yours ridiculous. These surveys are based on a limited self selecting sample size that hasn't skied every ski major ski area in the northeast. Goodness knows I am trying but even a die hard like me still hasn't been to many major areas such as Massif, MSA, Tremblant, all of the Catskills, Sutton, Orford, etc. Even if the sample size was only randomly selected die hards that have skied all or most major ski areas, opinion would still be off the charts.

People like giving their opinions, even when said opinions might not be based on facts or experience. These ski area surveys are a harmless pass time. I don’t get why every year people on ski forums who read the results get all bent and snobbish about the results.

Sheldon Cooper. I had to look that up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheldon_Cooper

I think the SNOWEAST thing, or any survey, basically tells you about the magazine's audience, and which marketing departments think that magazine matters.

I got the link to this survey from Laszlo this morning, with a the note: "Should I care about this?"

What is with best ski area under 1100 feet? I think that's totally bogus. The cut off should be 963 feet.

Killington wins surveys because of the volume of people who go there and don't know there is anything better.  Trail merge disasters, poor management, run down lodges from the 1960s, out of control bus groups,  a strip mall access road that is Vermonts version of Paramus NJ....but it still wins surveys.

Why do you hate America so much?

btw, I think you're a little over the  top in some of your criticism. "Strip mall" and "Paramus"? Really? Have you been to Paramus lately? Have you been to Killington lately?

Interesting results for sure. It's amazing how different publications produce different results based on their readers. Results of the same survey given by Powder, Freeskier, and Skiing would all be different.

As far as I know, Snow East has a lot of followers from NJ, PA, and southern NY. That would explain most of the trends in the results of this survey- let's face it, having to drive 3+ hours to get somewhere is almost guaranteed to make it lower on your list of favorites.
