Ski Town Rankings

Z
Finally a Ski Magazine ranking that is not totally F-ed up

Aspen 1.  Jackson and Stowe in top 5.  I even agree Park City deserves to be in here.  Lake Placid 10.

Only one I question is Vail. Yes it spans 3 interstate exits but I don't think real people actually live there if the don't own shares in hedge funds.

What did I tell you about reading that magazine!?!

It's no bueno Coach and almost as bad for you as Fox News.

It shows up free and we all need something to read In the can

I looked at the address label and my subscription runs thru 2024

Their equipment tests seem pretty legit

Steamboat won the Powder Magazine Ski Town Throwdown.  I'd say they deserved it more than Mount Bohemia did, which won it for the past two years.

If Ellicotville and Holiday Valley aren't ranked, then it can't be legit.

Right. Not to mention they skipped Glens Falls. Bogus.

Oh yeah? Because I always seem to find that the more ads the ski company runs in the magazine, the higher the score their skis get.

Yeah these rankings are really bogus. After all they missed the really swank "Under the radar ski destination" Tupper Lake, Big Tupper. It was just played up in the Wall Street Journal article, How could it have possibly been overlooked.

If the ranking is done by voting the "legit" thing is sort of moot, IMO.

It wasn't done by voting this time. They did have some runner up towns, where they mentioned Ellicottville as the top vote getter from readers. They also had a pretty good list of "ski cities" that included Bend and "next great ski towns" that included Salida, CO. It was actually pretty well done for Ski Magazine, but this is the kind of thing I like reading about.

It is funny to see towns with between 1,500 and 8,000 people and median home prices of $450,000 to $1.1 million. Must be nice?

Wonder how many of those are second or even third homes ? Lots of Lake George homes are that way.

I think they were a little harsh on Copper.  Frisco is only 5-10 mins away and is a cool little town.  Given its location within 30 mins of 6 ski areas it deserved some props.  I've stayed there and would do it again.

Staying in Frisco now...4 days...4 different mtns...nice town ...convenient location to hit different ski areas. I can agree with coach on this ! 14 days to go might even drive up to Steamboat if they get more snow.

Copper is my favorite resort in that summit county area with A Basin coming in second.

But as far as best ski towns in America, what about Bakers Mills. Hey - you got the J&J.

Crested Butte is my most favorite mountain town. It's the quintessential Colorado mining town turned ski town. It's also out of the way and not completely Aspenized like a lot of other cool places, it still has a little bit of it's gritty edge left. That mountain is just too damn tough for most people.

When they have the snow the terrain on the resort is the best in Colorado imo too.
