Ski Weather for April 2011

This post was updated on .
I know it's far out but I thought ... there something extra cool about April storm stoke.

Brent from Albany Weather Examiner, sorta hinted at it yesterday.

And a few minutes ago lionelhutzskis just tweeted this:

"Heck I'll call it now. We gonna have an "Easter Nor'easter". Mark it down. Fkna."

BTW Lionel does a Twitter weather update every morning.

To me it's the most consistently valuable content on Twitter.

Found another weather blogger (thanks Brent aka Albany Weather Examiner), it's Andy Gregorio the meteorologist at WTEN-TV in Albany, NY:

http://wx4cast.blogspot.com/2011/03/march-ends-like-lion-april-fools-us.html

"Through the middle of this week rather quiet and near seasonable weather will prevail across interior NY State and western New England. Temperatures both day and night should average close to normal. High pressure and dry weather are expected through Wednesday.

Beginning Thursday the weather pattern looks like it be taking a turn toward a more active and stormy scenario."

Jason, Suds, Nor'Easter, weathergeeks...

As many have mentioned in the Cold Spring Thread, the "problem" with the current run unseasonable temps, for lift served skiers, is the possibility that skier visits will drop to the point where mountains will shut down regardless of conditions and snow depth.

That thread does indicate that some forum members (who are probably more hardcore than the average skier) are thinking about off-season sports.

What does the crystal ball/long term say about a return to warmer temps?

BTW Jason your comment in that thread is borderline treason!

Yeah, but even when the mountains close down, Tucks will still have snow . . . and it will definitely be worth it.

Count me as one of those people thinking about off season sports.  But I'm probably going to end up putting mountain biking off until I'm done skiing.  As much as I want to ride the bike this weekend, In about 2 months, I'll be able to ride as much as I want, but not be able to ski.  Better get the skiing in while I can.

Tucks will have a long season...but it's a long haul for me so one day(hopefully) will be it... however, there is so much snow that even after the lifts shut, it's a much shorter drive and quicker hike to ski the dark side...I agree with Matt, I can wait for the bike

Wishing for that Powder Day on Saturday!  6" of heavy wet is like 18" of light and somewhat dry.
Proud to call Gore My Home Mountain
Covid stole what would have been my longest season ever!
I'll be back

It looks like it's been snowing in the mountains.  Radar has looked like this all day.

At minimum, it has to be snowing up top in NoVT.

And it looks like more than that.

It was snowing off and on today at Gore.  No accumulations but it came down pretty good at times.  Around 10:45 it was still only 26 at the top of the gondola.  I was actually cold much of the day today while there.  Very windy at times too.

I read once, that they got like 4 inches of bulletproof glass and wiremesh for windows in the Mt. Washington weather observatory. Sometimes the wind hurls rocks at it. Imagine being stuck there during hurricane force winds and friggin softball size+ rocks tearing the place apart.

It's lightly snowing....the party's back on! Think I'll go make a few runs right after I clear the driveway.
