There's something that isn't apples to apples about the grading system.  Mad's grade is about it's position, no snowmaking and two lifts.  Plattekill had an A+ on opening day 100% today they have less terrain.
Resorts aren't all apples so I think grading them with a single system is not that easy. But in fairness to Sno, he came up with a grading standard and then applied it to the places he knew about. Using his grading system, the grades seem fair and clearly the grades could change as lifts open/close. Gore's layout may make an A harder to acheive, but it's also clear they are lagging by a lot.

Sno , sometimes i bust your chops ,but on this effort i think you are doing decent job of classifying and trying to evaluate .

Happy trails !

Can we grade it on a curve so we can pull a C- ?

Gore gets a C as soon as they open a second route to the summit.

I suggest you come up with a grading scheme that works both times in the season.

Gore could improve their grade by selling (lol) Burnt Ridge and the Ski Bowl but it wouldn't change the skiing today.  Kind of like when Gore removed glades from the percent open number a few years ago. That didn't really change anything but the number.

I like the idea sno but you aren't measuring the same thing in all cases.

After skiing Belleayre today, I feel the need to lower their grade from a B to a B-

They opened all lifts for Christmas, which gets them into the B category, but clearly expanded terrain that way just to say they did.  They have not done any resurfacing since the thaw in early December, unlike Windham and Hunter, which have done so multiple times.  Trails were very icy, and while I can ski them fine, the lower ability levels were struggling.  To open the last lift (Tomahawk), they needed to cover a full route off that lift (Seneca) and open all the connector trails (Route 9, Expressway, Tomahawk Crossing).  That's basically 3 full trails worth of snowmaking to ski one.

The sno plan for early season terrain expansion calls for opening all lifts for Christmas at just about all costs.  However, there were no liftlines at Belleayre today, even though it's a holiday week, so that means that opening all lifts might not have been an absolute must like I say it is for some mountains.  Tomahawk and Lift 7 were running mostly empty, and assuming all people that were skiing Tomahawk would've skied Lift 7 if Tomahawk were closed, there still would've been no line.

If they chose not to open Tomahawk and instead resurfaced all the other open trails at least once, and opened up a couple more runs off Lift 7/Supercheif, there probably would've been better conditions, and still no significant lift lines.  I enjoyed all my runs on Seneca and support their decision to expand terrain there, but it clearly caused subpar conditions elsewhere, and I just wanted to provide an alternative viewpoint.

What about the pitchers of beer specials during apres? Has this imperative aspect been overlooked for Sno's grading system?

For shame.....

More importantly - the ability to do the tail gate BBQ in the parking lot.

Find a resort near a Walmart, they use to have a policy of allowing parking lot campers - not sure if they still do or not.

Well shoot, if there is snow on the ground and I'm at a Wallmart I might just throw on the skinny glider skis and hunt around the parking lot for lost treasures and dirty little lot lizards.
