Snow Ridge Conditions

Fantastic to meet everyone and get some turns with you guys. What a blast. Harv, Scotty and I started to follow your tracks, but after boot packing it up to the second ridge and seeing no clearing we chickened out. Hopefully the t-bar will be running next time. My go-pro fritzed after the 7th or 8th run, but I got some good footage. If I get really motivated I might actually put an edit together. In the meantime here are some screen grabs. Sorry I didn't get these to you sooner Harv, but its been a busy week. Hope platty gets some pow out of this storm.



Not bad for the first run of the year. A ghost stump reached up and grabbed one of my skis shortly after this and I got my first wipeout outta the way.

Posted 3pm today:

Colder temps and more snow is in the forecast.  We received 4" yesterday and flurries are in the air now.   Lake effect could happen overnight and Wednesday.  We have fired the guns back up and they are pumping out excellent snow.

Snow Ridge will be open on Wednesday, Jan 7 from 10am to 4pm with a powder, packed powder, machine groomed surface.  Two lifts and 3+ trails will be available.

Post this am:

Lake effect snow has done good - and it's about time!!  We received 10" of snow and it's snowing now - another 5"-9" could happen during the day.  We will be open from 10am-4pm with 2 lifts serving 7+ trails.  It's powder time today.  See you on the slopes.

10 inches of super light snow on top of a hard crust.  Not bad for 15 bucks on a Wednesday.  Sure beats work.

About 14° at the base and 12° at the summit. Overcast skys. A cold front is coming in and the snow is starting now.

 



Took over 25 minutes to get my pass today because they have decided to sell all of the rentals and lessons at the ticket desk at the same time. I had to wait for everybody to fill out all of their forms before they could take my money and give me a ticket. This place is as crazy as it has ever been. They have Snow Pocket lift listed as closed at the window, when it was definitely open.  That's alright, because it worked out just great for me.  Snow Pocket was not open yesterday, so it was in great shape when it opened today.

At 10:30 AM, Von Allman still had not been touched.



The wind is brutal with the coming cold front. However, it's toasty warm on the T-bar and in the woods.

Thanks for the post Bosco, Are you sure you were at Snow Ridge? I expected to see waist deep pow and orange fencing all over the place.

What a day.  Did not touch bottom.  The untracked seem to settle as the day went on, and got easier to stay on top.

We skied a snowmaking line that was tight and fun as hell.  Snow Pocket too. Plus Nick did a huge huck into the ravine.

I felt a bit over the handlebars on the first run, but got in the groove soon. Wow. Just awesome.

Nice, Harvey. I need to get my ass up there to experience the lake effect snows and according to PowderAss the deepest snow in the east coast. Lol. Way to get at it, Mr. NYSkiblog!  You are ubiquitous with NY skiing.

Just a quick vid from my first run.  Atypical for a pow day, but things got much better as they got skied in. Glad I got to meetup with Matt and Harvey, even if only briefly.  Solid day 1 in the books.
