Instead of joining the chicken littles yet again, just once it would be nice to see you go with your gut about these overblown forecasts and give people an accurate call.

I don't understand getting pissed at a snowstorm or a forecast.  If you look at all the forecast snowfall maps, clearly there was going to be a distinct edge to the largest volume of snow.  The forecast was pretty decent. Looks like the track was a bit east. Parts of the east coast wer

As far as the media hype this is capitalism. The media outlets (NWS excepted) aren't in business to provide a public service they want to make money.  Who here works for a company that doesn't try to make more money?  Buyer beware.

We got 3-5 inches and I am about 20 miles north of the middle of Manhattan. It is actually starting to snow heavier now. Maybe we will get a few more inches of wrap around snow.

The Euro was the only model that had the western edge of the storm bringing the big snows to NYC/eastern NY/western CT/MA, no?  Almost all the other models I saw or heard them talk about had the heavy snows further east, with much smaller amounts where the euro was calling for heavy snow.  Yes, the euro shit the bed, but overall the majority of models seemed to have hit it right.  Eastern New England/Long Island did get 2-3 feet, so it wasn't all hype.

Problem is for the outlets to actually forecast when the models differ.  If one of the major models calls for heavy snow, they tend to forecast on the heavy side.  I guess it's better to have people prepare and have it not happen than to be caught unprepared.  Imagine if NYC didn't prepare for the almost 2 feet one model said they could get, and then they get hammered?  So I guess I will give most a pass on this.

I don't like how the Weather Channel and other outlets turn into a circus.  It does get a little rediculous with some of the hype.  While I did see them comment on the differing models and questions regarding the western edge, they were more than happy to feed the hype machine in NYC all through the storm it seems.

We REALLY need a proper roll eyes emoji!!

It's possible to be too "prepared", though. I mean, they shut down the NYC subways. WTF is that? I mean, I suppose they could shut down the subways every time it rains, but that's hardly good policy.

All people want is reasonable decision making. The idea that we have to close all roads and shut down public transit every time there's a chance of weather is ridiculous.

Well, it wasn't a bust for all of us. I'm sitting here in Suffolk County with about 16 inches on the ground and it's still falling pretty hard.

I agree, but whenever there's a big dump of snow, they NEVER shovel the steps leading down from the street, which get bootpacked, become death traps, and easy targets for ambulance chasers, I'd assume.

Have to say the Open Snow totally nailed this forecast

I'm not a weather guy but to me this is THE best weather resource for skiers period!

They are consistently more accurate than any other forecast for snow totally as well as calling rain

Their ski area forecasts are right on.  The east coast guy also is a PSIA Ed staff member

This post was updated on .
Here is OpenSnow's call:

Southern VT (Mount Snow, Stratton, Okemo, etc.): 14-18" with the possibility for up to 2 feet
Central VT (Killington, Pico, Sugarbush, etc.): 8-14"
Northern VT (Jay, Stowe, Smuggs, Burke, etc.): 4-8"
Northern NH (Whiteface, Gore, etc.): 3-6"

Looks legit
