Saturdays storm might be one for the history books...The potential is there for a historical snow fall for NW Jersey and the Poconos..A foot plus is possible , there is also a chance NYC might record their biggest Oct snow fall in history too.
This is exciting stuff!

WHILE THERE WAS SOME SPREAD IN THE MODEL SUITE WITH RESPECT TO A POTENTIAL WEEKEND STORM EARLIER...THERE IS INCREASING CONSENSUS THAT SUCH A (SIGNIFICANT) EVENT WILL IMPACT SOME PART OF THE FCA SATURDAY PARTICULARLY SOUTH AND EAST OF ALB.

WITH THE BAROLCINIC ZONE STALLED OFF CAROLINA COAST ALONG THE GULF STREAM AND A SERIES OF 500HPA SHORT WAVES DIGGING INTO A CUTOFF...RAPID CYCLOGENISUS WILL ENSUE OVER DELMARVA SATURDAY MORNING...AND THE DEEPENING SFC LOW WILL MOVE TO CAPE COD BY 2AM SUNDAY AND GULF OF MAINE SUNDAY MORNING.

Is it just me or does it seem like southern NY has had a lot more snow activity than the north country the last few years?  I lived down there for 46 yrs and I don't remember there ever being a stretch like they've had since I left there.  Don't get me wrong, at the end of each year our numbers are still there but we've been getting it 3, 4, 6, maybe 8 inches at a time while they keep getting these great storms.

Agreed. In fact, there's an old joke/antedote I read in some  magazine about Albany getting more snow than the ADKS. It's too long to write out here, but it illustrates the concept.

Not a big problem up north, but definitely a matter of concern further south. Wet heavy snow + leaves still on trees = potential disaster. Remember the October 4, 1987 snowstorm in the Albany NY region? Many trees went down and took the power lines with them.

We were without power for 3 days. The wife, my 18-month-old daughter and I stayed over with a different friend each night. The new house we were closing on at the end of that week had power the whole time.

In life, timing is everything.

I'll be surprised is we keep the power on for another hour here in the flatlands.

Trees are bent way over and we've only had a couple inches.

Would love to know what's happening in NJ. I can get email so post in the storm speculation thread.
Jersey? Don't know about Jersey. There is speculation about what's happening in the hollers of West Virginia.

Guess what their favorite Halloween activity is.

Best laid plans.

Roads are extremely dicey south of the cats.

Bridges very slick.  Not moving for a while.

As far as timing, I agree, but come on, for overall insanity, the Feb 2010 Catskills burial wins hands-down.
