No skiing for me this weekend. As James would say, I called an audible switching things around so I could ski last weekend and work this weekend. Seemed like the right move as I never get enough powder in my life. James is being a wise ass, but there is some truth to what he's saying. If I could ski this weekend I'd be at Hickory tomorrow. Right now it looks like tomorrow has the best potential surfaces for the upcoming period. Be great if someone posts on Hickory's opening day.

This makes it look like the Cats may get less qpf:
I also think there's a chance that in Northern VT that some of that precip at the end could be the good kind.

Look on the bright side, we had a good early winter and now we will have no reason to wish we were somewhere else on Tuesday and Wednesday. By the new year we will be in good shape again. Here is something from the NWS that we can think about over the next few sad days: "THE FORECAST BECOMES A BIT MORE MURKY FROM THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY...AS
ENERGY ASSOCIATED WITH AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH MOVES EASTWARD ACROSS THE GREAT LAKES...WHILE THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A SOUTHERN STREAM DISTURBANCE TO PHASE WITH THE PRIMARY TROUGH. THE ECMWF IS MOST AGGRESSIVE WITH THIS SCENARIO...WHICH COULD LEAD TO A MORE WIDESPREAD MODERATE PRECIP EVENT." |

LOL DD thanks for the heads up, I'll keep my head down! Not buryin nothin! Every weather thread is a record. That's why I like the dates in the thread titles. When I do the year in photos it's waay easier to do those posts if the weather threads and TRs have dates in the titles. May not do the year in photos next summer though. It's a PITA.

Had the same thought. I saw this too. I didn't want to pull the trigger on it at this time. But it's out there now. I may have to break this out now.... Sheeesh?

This is something you don't necessarily want..If a system phase to far to the west they tend to run up the SL river.. You need the northern stream to out run the southern then phase off the coast.. Anyway, It looks like we return to a colder pattern..

I'm totally with ya!! Lost a foot of snow in my yard overnight Tonight will make the first sat night I haven't slept at camp in a month, man_0_man I miss that place. Haven't warmed my hands in deer blood for almost a week now ---- miss the smell of deer guts too!! How will I ever survive |
Half inch of ice down now , the worst expected tonite another half to full inch ...Sure hope power stays on . Reminiscent of the ICESTORM of 1998 .... Not good . Our entire family was to arrive today . Now perhaps Monday IF power is on .
ICE renders u damn near helpless , i can fight snow with good equipment , altho yesterday i broke a shear. Pin on my SB had to drive 40 miles round trip in a damn blizzard to get the RIGHT part . Nobody in town had the RIGHT one and the pins i had on hand from my previous model SAME brand wouldn't fit :( The good news is my OUTBACK charged thru the nastiness like a champ and i NEEDED those wiper heaters yesterday driving in the icy mix ...again CAMPY the OB was the RIGHT tool ;)
Life ain't a dress rehearsal: Spread enthusiasm , avoid negative nuts.

Be safe up there Warp!! They're talking about this ice storm down here so I know it's gonna be bad.
I still have a T-shirt from the storm in 98 that says. "Real men don't take sponge baths ... I survived the storm of 98" Yeah, those Outbacks are what you need for up there |

It took my brother 11 hours to drive from NJ to Mt Tremblant yesterday. It is usually around 8 hours. He is enjoying 10 inches of powder today, so it was worth it.

Such is the life of an East Coast skier. Up until this event, the best start to a season of my skiing life. Winter shall return, hell, it just officially got here. Off to Greek for some pond skimming, Merry Christmas to all! |
Currently 67 degrees in the flatlands...windows are open and birds are chirping. Kind of feel like the guy on the left in the picture below. My brain hurts.
