I saw that too. While the GFS map does tend to go over the top, I believe the 144 hour is now showing two storms - Weds and Sun - combined.

I just woke up and raided the fridge. I'm 7 miles north of Gore summit and I haven't seen a single flake

What? Is this possible?

About 5 inches of light and fluffy snow in Clifton Park. Still coming down hard. Work this morning, go home, fill up crockpot at lunch, then go out for a little tour...

No it didn't.  It's hammering in Plattsburgh right now.  radar shows a little dry slot opened down south but it's quickly closing and it's going to snow another 10 -12 hours.  Chill.  Gore will be fine.

Gore reported 5 inches about 90 minutes ago.  Seems like the call of 8-10 may play out.  NWS called 5-10 last night.

It probably started snowing a half an hour after you toddled back to bed.  Why didn't you look at a radar rather than come in here to pointlessly "nowcast" out your window?  You're making the flatlanders jumpy.

Of all the forecasts I check, the NOAA forecasts seemed to nail this storm just about everywhere.  They are calling for significant additional accumulations through this evening in the Cats and Dacks.  Whiteface is reporting 6 inches at 6am.  Yes, the heaviest snows hit the Cats, but with the Dacks getting upwards of a foot I don't see any reason to complain.

You really are freaking out the flatlanders (me).

First of all, even if it's 3 inches now + 4 inches later, that's still 7 inches, which is a solid amount of snow (especially this year).

Second, I heard there'll be a second wave arriving.

Third, this storm plus Sunday (which could be a monster) plus the following week (snow around valentine's day?) could set us up very nicely for President's week into Spring. Once again, I have to remind everyone to be patient. It always comes eventually.

just stop, this weekend looks like nothing ATM.  Most areas in the dacks this is an 3-6 inch storm which was much lower than forecasted but I spoke about it on here a few days ago as being my fear.  We were expecting 3-6 in westchester and ended up with 10 inches.

Re: Storm 2/5/14

27....where exactly are you that you have the 411 on the Dacks?  Most reports are that the Dacks have already seen more than 6 inches, and upstate NY is where it is still snowing, and will do so through this evening.  Yes, the 12 plus bands targeted the Cats, but it's not like this storm has a narrow band of precip.  8-12 seems to be the general amount from Putnam Co. up to the north country, with the Cats getting the plus.

As for this weekend, most of the latest guidance isn't showing the southern and northern storms phasing, so no Big Daddy.....but there will still be measurable snow.  Perhaps a few inches in southern regions from the southern disturbance, while the storm coming across the Great Lakes looks like a 3-6 kind of event.  Who knows, maybe we get lucky and they combine.....it may not look likely, but you never know.

Report from North Creek 1100 feet:

"5 inches of snow, some freezing rain mixed in."

SJ reported from Whiteface, 5 inches on the ground around 11:00 and snowing hard.  While I might have been hoping for a huge dump in the Dacks, forecasts were in the 6-12 range for Whiteface, and it looks like that will be pretty accurate.  Surprised there is mixing in North Creek.  I'm way down in Dutchess Co and we've had some mixing, but it's currently snowing.

Hahahah!  I guess this whiteout going on outside my window, and the radar image I just looked at, are optical illusions!  Dude, this is a nice snow storm.  The local weather guy had us (including Gore and WF) in the 4-8" band and we're gonna get all of that - at least up here in northern Essex and Clinton Counties.  I'll bet the higher terrain (2500'+ and up) gets a foot - maybe a tad more.  Nice storm, seems like its focus may have shifted north a bit.

Got a text and photos from Danzilla at Gore:

"Tell everyone to relax. Slight freezing rain towards the bottom but solid 6-8 and its still snowing. Windy on the summit but trees are good. Summit and dark side got the most."

He sent me some pics, will post them in a few.
