Thoughts?
It's going to do something, and QPF will be in the half inch plus range. The freezing level will be dropping throughout the day Thursday as a cold front approaches. Seeing lots of forecasts for r*in, but now one is showing measurable snow above 3,000 ft on Thurs afternoon/night. Has the summit of WF pulling out 6-8 inches of white stuff while the base picks up an inch of liquid. Hmmm......

I'm headed up this weekend regardless but am watching this closely.........

As of now , it looks like around 3/4 " of liquid before going over to snow around or before midnight on thursday.. But you never know, if things speed up , it will keep the liquid amounts down.. then maybe 4 or more after the cold front passage...

Strange drive back from Whiteface. From Lake George to just north of Albany the temp was above 40, but it was snowing, intermittently mixed with r*in. Obviously colder in the upper atmosphere for now.....
Temp when I left the River Lot at WF was in the 50s.

Rain started at 5pm around Glens Falls. By the time we hit Saratoga it transitioned to sleet. Then moved to thick heavy snow. Then back to rain. It is not doing anything right now.

This looks promising:

It's 27 degrees right now at the WF summit observatory.
The NWS mountain point forecast for WF is showing 8 inches this afternoon into Friday. |
I wonder how much damage was actually done..I saw the 27 deg too - hopefully the top half of the mountain was preserved, and the snow incoming will really make it good. I'm fearful of what will happen to slides opening with a thaw freeze + snow..... I need Gold to get in there, haven't coughed up the dough for avy gear yet...it's in the queue.

I need gold too...

I don't think any damage was done. Some melting the past two days with the warm weather but I dint think above mid there is anything but snow.
|
Raining in Saratoga. :(

If u show up with an avalanche beakin and backpack will they lookin backpack for probe and shovel?
|
Snow on the WF webcam, and the NWS forecast discussion trending in the right direction. 2-4 in the northern Dacks, with more at the higher summits.

If I drive my 2WD Quad Cab up to WF tomorrow, it'll dump 2', lol.

I'd think if you have a beacon you'd fork out a few extra $ for a probe and shovel , no? |
