Stowe Lodging Advice

snoloco
Has anyone ever stayed on hill at Stowe?  I think I'm going there for President's day and I would like to try and stay on hill if possible.  What are the options?

The only ski in ski out option for Stowe is the new hotel on the Spruce side.  That's really nice but it's gonna be spendy on a holiday weekend.  Most Stowe lodging is on the road up to the mountain, and there's still some old school motels along with newer hotels.  I like the Stowe Motel, which is on the cheaper end but it's fine for me.  It's also owned by one of the girls who was too cool to talk to me back in the day, so it's got that going for it.

Just pick the most expensive lodging option since your daddy pays for it.  Might as well since its the most expensive mountain on the most expensive weekend.

It's been a million years since I was at Stowe, but from what I remember, if you can afford the room, you are going to be in a huge traffic jam in the morning and at the end of the day. I think it took us 45 minutes to go ten miles.  Rather spend my time relaxing on a slow chair at Smugglers Notch

We try to get to Stowe once a yr so I know it pretty well

If you are at the base no traffic issues but you are probably going to pay $500 a night at Spruce for that weekend.  maybe a little less at the toll house lodging which is only sort of connected to the mt

The other end of the spectrum is the Round Hearth Lodge where my sons summer dry land camp is.  Price is around $150 for a weekend including meals and lift tix.  I stayed here when I was in college.  It's a fun place and there would be other kids your age to hang with.

We also like the 1812 stagecoach b&b in Waterbury and then you can do a day at Sugarbush as well.  They have one of the best breakfasts in Vt or elsewhere.  Save the big bucks for your trip out west.

If you or your dad insist on going high end try Trapp Family Lodge.

Any idea what their breakfast hours are?  Stowe opens at 7:30am and of course I always am out there for first lift.  I like to arrive a half hour before the lifts open, and it it 25 minutes away, so I would need to leave by 6:35am.  It could be a good option as long as they do breakfast early enough.

I know it's fairly early because I stayed there when I attended a Psia event at Stowe and you need to be there early for those

You would have to call and ask

Good idea to hit it early on a busy weekend

36 minutes and 42.5 seconds at first chair.

Seriously..... they're brutal. It's a major destination resort on the ec on the busiest ski holiday weekend. What do you think?

I really have no idea as I have not ever been there on a busy weekend.  I've mostly skied there midweek.

I did ski there on a April weekend and they were busy by WF weekend standards. the lines were 10 mins for the forerunner and Gondi.
I agree with the other guys the lines will be huge on Presidents weekend.  I'll be in Utah then where it's not a holiday for locals that weekend and not waiting in lifelines.  We did it last yr and where pleasantly surprised by that.  Except for we heard Park City's lines where huge.  For what you are spending on slope side at Stowe and the time it takes to drive there you could stay in Downtown SLC or Odgen.

won't be any worse than Stratton on a busy weekend  like all the other tourons we always had to base our trips on kids school vacations, so have done stowe, snow and killy on holiday weekends. we've always found it manageable with a little bit of logistics planning - yea if you hit the main lifts serving intermediate terrain right after lunch is gonna suck just like the Gondi line at whiteface at that time! best thing you can hope for that its too cold and snowy for the masses!

I'm now in that same boat

The key is to zig when the masses zag.  Three are other places to ski more off the beaten track and avoid the mega resorts.   Pico vs Big K
Magic vs Stratton
Utah vs Co or Vt
Maybe parts of Quebec but not Tremblant
