I'm fairly new to golf, but I don't get the hurry up and get it over with as fast as you can mentality. I sometimes hear other golfers brag about how quickly they get around. Personally I enjoy being out on the course and unless I have someplace to be after I have no idea how long I'm out there. You seldom here a skier brag that they've just skied for 2.5 hours and now they're done.

The #1 issue in the game today is slow play. The time to play is cited as the reason poeple don't play.People watch how slow the tour pros play and copy it. Jason Day is offender #1. Watched the women play the last round of the US Open and the Asian girls in particular are painfully slow especially on the greens.
Not playing ready golf, these stupid pre shot routines, too many practice strokes, marking and remarking after each putt on every green all add up. That most poeple never work on their game on the range or take lessons so they suck doesn't help. In Scottland the norm is to play 18 in 3:30 hours or less. Why should it take us in the US an hour more? I played a 9 hole match with my son in under an hour last night. Match play instead of stroke play if betting makes a difference to speed up play. Pick up if you are out of a hole. I'm out there to get exercise walking the 6+ miles. If the round takes 4+ hours I'm standing or sitting for an hour of that time.

Not everyone plays by themselves or in just a 2some. To me golf is MUCH more enjoyable in a 4some. Camaraderie, the heckling, joking and smack talking is all part of the golf experience. Slow down and enjoy the ride coach. Laughter is fun!!

there is plenty of time for that in between shots. I am a ball buster and run my mouth off all the time. golf can be fun and quick . I play it fast with or without beers. |
Exactly what I'm talking about. |

Well, since you asked -- I try and run them over with the cart. If you can catch the lil bastards in the middle of the fairway you can usually get them |
I hope a woodchuck bites your balls off.

The difference is, if one skier is taking 3 minutes to decide on his next turn, I can just ski right by him, and continue skiing at my own pace. In golf, you're limited in how fast you can play by the people in front of you. I like golf, but I don't want to be out there for 5.5-6 hours like I am at Saratoga Spa sometimes. I'm sick of it after a few hours and waiting on every shot disrupts my rhythm. My father always said it doesn't matter if you play good or bad, just play fast. When there is nobody in front of us, we can play in 2.5-3 hours. Coach mentioned Scotland. My parents went for a golf vacation, and they were playing in a twosome, at about a 3 hour pace. A foursome of Scots behind them was playing so fast, they had to let them play through. That's good golf, right there. |
It would be interesting to know the ettiquette from back in the pre ww2 skiing era. Like ride up slide down at Gore. You couldn't just casually fly by someone while cranking big arcs, not even acknowleging each other. You would have had to "play through" like golf. Eventually there would be a critical mass of participants, as well as wide trails etc that creates anonymity.

Sj THIS is no bs , true story.
Last golf season ,late in August i was out on my local course along a quite section of river ,a tributery to the St Lawrence . It pretty early about 7:30 am the mist was om the river ,the dew heavy on the grass , and the rapids were flowing a bit slow this am . I was playing alone and as i addressed my second shot out on this particular fairway i had this eirry feeling that something was behind me ,watching . I was concerned that it may be a predator. i turned around slowly and about 25 yards or so behind me was a mostly WHITE young doe ,beautiful animal, just watching me I had never seen a white deer before so i just stopped and watched her amble by and run down the fairway about couple hundred yards onto a small beach area . AMazingly peaceful site . I Usually enjoy watching the Great Blue Herons on the 11 ponds on this course , they look like terradactyls but are very graceful . Love these guys too. One of the great things about playing this game early in the am is these kinds of very cool and relaxing encounters .

I think that is the course with the Scottish style double greens with two different holes on one green
Nice course. Made my only double eagle there. I think that was my first round breaking 80 back as my game was maturing. I think it's Hiland CC
