"The little crew I ski with tends to go one gully further than the masses......we can do laps out here all day long and only cross our own tracks."
That sense of solitude is what I've loved the most about the BC skiing I've done so far out in the PNW. At Crystal the Southback (hike to, in bounds sidecountry) area provides relatively easy access to the ridge line above Henskin Lake, and to Pickhandle Peak. Spent a day doing laps in there and it was great, but (gasp!) there were tracks and we did see a couple other people. Just a ridge line or two over from those areas is Bullion Basin and Cement Basin. Next day out we went there, day after a storm that was all snow above 6k. Maybe it was the rain at lower elevation the day before, or maybe it was the much longer skin-in access......but we had an entire wilderness to ourselves, not a track or another soul to be seen all day. It was truly spectacular. To be able to experience things like that, to develop the skills and knowledge to go places and do things that 99.999% of the world's population will never be able to......that is special. That's what I keep telling my kids, and dammit one of these days they are going to hear me!
We REALLY need a proper roll eyes emoji!!
