Re: My Ski Area

IBM while big blue is an awesome name for your largest blue.

You def need a native American name.

Something cool but hidden--regarding your parents, who own the land.    Example may be where they got engaged, a nic name they use, mom's maiden.

What about the family who owned the land before them?  What did they call it?

I think Gore did a great job of naming its slopes/areas.

Think deep and give reasons for the names.

Any chance of letting outsiders in...some day?   My kids (very good skiers) would form a great memory, one I keep of places like this gone silent.

IBM's connection to Oneonta is pretty obscure. You'd  have to go into a long history lesson that spanned several decades, about a multitude of companies that never had operations in Oneonta, to really explain it well. Or you could just say that the first chairman of IBM was born in Oneonta.

Soccer Hall of Fame is there - that's much more well known.

According to Wikipedia Paul Reubens "spent a significant amount of his childhood in Oneonta." So you could name your terrain park Pee Wee's Playhouse. Or you could name a run "Southern Exposure" in his honor too.

Cool video and project.

Yea, I've lived in CNY forever and when I think of IBM I think of the triple cities. Never even knew Oneonta was involved with IBM.

My two cents: leave IBM out of it!  Just feels wrong.

Woodstream is about as anti-IBM as you get.

Ok I agree. people who have lived here for a while know about IBM, But most people born in the last 5 decades wouldn't have a clue. The one awesome connection is that the land was purchased thanks to old IBM stock

I love to have outsiders visit. It happens all the time. We don't and can't charge money, "donations only" so, if worse comes to worse, I call the police and tell them you were trespassing. Don't take that the wrong way. Nothing's ever happened.  I love to connect with other skiers about this project. Next season, you should email me, and we'll talk.

Regarding the land,  some guy from NYC bought like 1000 acres on the back side of Hartwick known as Winney Hill which used to be farm land, and  developed "Woodstream Lane" and then split it up into smaller lots.

I like that idea although it seems like some people are not digging the whole IBM idea. It's funny you mention that because there are two foot ball players in my school known as big blue and big black. But big black wouldn't be pt considering most kids would know where I got that idea from.

I agree. Unfortunately, the soccer hall of fame is gone. It didn't do well. I play soccer, so it was sad for me to see it go, but now the building is owned by a new company which is about to change the world known as "Ioxus" they actually started in a little building on my road so we used to be neighbors. I totally dig the project, and what they're doing is awesome. Who knows, maybe I can make a connection with them someday, considering im majoring in engineering in college. Check it out!http://www.ioxus.com/
However, I like "Pee Wee's playhouse" I may use that. I've got a lot of ideas coming in. Thanks for the support!

Thursday, April 2. That was the last day with reasonable snow coverage. We also did pond skimming that day.

I don't know about that man. Although Plattekill, where I ski, has a fun bike trail (which I like to ski) called "the red headed Slut"
