Well Benny, if skier visits is the measure, then you were right:
National skier visits plummeted to 51 million last season, the worst year since 1991-92.
From the 20 percent decline in New England to the 26 percent drop in California and the 7 percent drop in the Rocky Mountains in between, five out of every six resorts in every snowy region of the country saw declines in visitation.
The weakest snowfall in 20 years fueled a 15.7 percent decline from last year’s record 60.5 million visits. The season started slow, with resort visitation down 29 percent before and through Christmas, hobbling momentum heading into the typically busiest months of the ski season.
The statistical litany of declines revealed what every U.S. resort operator suspected: the 2011-12 ski season will forever rank as one of the ugliest ever, with record levels of decay from coast to coast.
