How far up did you have to go?
I'm really looking into learning about earning my turns, backcountry skiing, etc.  and I've always thought of the road being my first taste of doing that.....

Is that the toll road?

Peter, you need to master the Telemark turn. It is a freeheel tecnhique. As a Nordic specialist, you are a freeheel skier. You can tele on skate skis!

What's the telest gear you've ever ridden?

There were a bunch of kids carrying XC skis up as we were walking down the non snowed bottom part. Kids, as in 8-13 years old. Also saw some older guys, looked like Northwood School racers headed down as I was taking my time down. They weren't really turning. The pitch is so shallow, it's mostly just a glide.

You could easily do it, Peter. Passed RonKon on his way up. He said the snow will probably stick around all week.

That was me with some members of the Saranac Lake Nordic ski club. Can't let NYSEF and Northwoods get all the credit :-) getting in our annual October ski, not to bad actually.

I have to work up there next week and haven't tried the boots with the surgically repaired foot yet...but would love to ski the road...I'll change the signature if all goes well

Today: Cloudy, with a high near 25. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph becoming southwest 9 to 14 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: Snow showers likely, mainly after 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 24. Windy, with a southwest wind 11 to 21 mph increasing to 24 to 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Sunday: Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 29. Windy, with a west wind 33 to 38 mph decreasing to 26 to 31 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Sunday Night: Snow showers likely before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Wind chill values as low as zero. Windy, with a west wind 34 to 39 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Veterans Day: A 30 percent chance of snow showers after 3pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 25. Blustery, with a west wind 18 to 25 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday Night: Snow showers likely, mainly between 7pm and 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13. Breezy, with a west wind around 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

That does look nice, if I could get time away I would consider a few turns on the road. Unfortunately I need to bust my hump to clear the decks for December.

Whiteface road was good today. You should have seen the number of cars in the parking lot.

WF opens for the 2013-14 season tomorrow!  

1st opening day I've missed at Whiteface in a long time.  Got to work.

Enjoy - I'll be there Saturday.  Hopefully it does not get too warm so it says nice for Saturday.  Its usually better once it gets groommed a few times.

Good stuff today.  Skied until noon and got 5 runs on the Gondi in eith my son.  Good coverage and as it got warmer it got a little sticky down lower where there was no shade
