I thought mid March would get cold and snowy again, but the forecasts are starting to look a bit warmer.

Might be time to start thinking about bikes and golf clubs...

the GFS map looks very different today - points straight at Jersey. I don't need snow here, who do we need to sacrifice to get the storm over ADKs?

Jason......what's your take on the Western outlook?  Tahoe looks like the winner next week into the weekend of the 25th, no?

As of NOW...PNW looks to have moderate snow that weekend..
Tahoe   looks to have more qpf but they will have a snow level problem ...

Still it's a long time a way to pin down precip type and amount..

Yeah, I'll have to commit long before we get to the point of pinning down amounts and such.  Looking to hit the spot with the best likelihood of something good.  I'd feel much better if the OpenSnow 6-10 day was showing SOMETHING for the PNW for late next week but it really isn't.  I think most agree the ridge keeping the West snow starved as of late will break down next week, just need to gamble on a likely winner. The Tahoe forecast has a series of 5-10 inch storms rolling through next week that could add up by the weekend, with the freezing level moving around a bit, but below lake level for much of it.  I'll roll the dice tomorrow morning!

How about flying into Reno and driving to Mammoth...Easy 3 hr drive..

Bryan from Open Snow won't talk about next weekend until Sunday or so...

Re: Winter Weather 2016-2017

That would be an option.  I'm not so much concerned with snow DURING that weekend, more so snow leading up to that weekend.  Brian seems optimistic regarding Tahoe storms during the week.  A couple three feet during the week would be great, even if the weekend doesn't have fresh "powder" at the resorts.  A backcountry day at Sugar Bowl would likely find some fresh cement.  Plus, the chance to exlore all of Squaw would be nice.  And Mammoth an option....

My concern with the PNW is its been springy and wet.  With cold coming back and not much new snow before that weekend, if they get it, a bunch of potential new snow that on top of a firm refrozen base might not make for viable off piste conditions.

Can't really go wrong either way....thanks for letting me think out loud!
