Here's my best guess for this weekend and the 27th

Saturday's system should be weak. Some light snow for the Northern Mtns and light rain showers for the Cats.

Monday's low is much stronger.  A strong southerly wind will develop. As of now most of the moisture goes north and west of NY .  Rain looks likely, it doesn't look heavy...

Remember this is still 5 days out..things can and will change..

I'm calling for about 3" on the 27th and 1 ft on the 29th which will put the woods in play.

this sounds bad for the early storm.  Open snow is showing decent snow for the 29th on the WF forecast page.

If you watch that weather GIF image step through the storm, looks like the high peaks are a blob of blue as the rain surrounds it and passes.  Let's hope to get that elevation advantage.  Being hopeful....

using the 12z GFS there will be lite rain to the summit of all northeastern mountains on Monday night..Not a big event..
But there will be a strong southerly wind

What does strong southernly wind indicate/mean?

A guess: warm, windy, melting snow?

Yeh figured that but was curious if there was something more scientific about it...

Darrin Harr of ILsnow calls it the "Blowtorch"....

southerly winds tend to have more humidity.. they can eat more snow then a cold rain..fortunately this is a quick mover

Seems like there is some bullet dodging happening with this one, based on the radar, and the cams that I checked.

NWS ALY long term:

Several systems will affect our region through next weekend. There is a chance for mainly snow Thursday and Thursday night, but some mix with rain is possible in southern areas. The rain/snow line will be determined as we get closer, there are still a range of possibilities. There could be considerable snow accumulation in northern areas and perhaps to southern VT and northern Berkshires but there is time to watch the evolution of this system.

Thursday: Looks like light snow for the entire region. There are indications that a major coastal low might form Thur/Thru night..Timing will be key..
After that models are all over the place..

Last night was one of the worst road ice events we have had in this areas since I can remember.
