I'm going to keep skiing until the WROD is completely gone.
I'm not that old and I have seen some very good winters and some very bad winters. My experience is for every bad winter you have a good winter. I'm optimistic that another great winter will come our way again soon.
This winter was average up until this point where we had an epic meltdown. So it will probably end up going down in the books as a not so good winter.
But I just got back from Hunter and the snow was amazing. Not even close to WROD yet, and with snowmaking late in the week, winter ain't over yet.
I'll take boilerplate ice over wet snow any day

If this shit keeps up on the EC...I'm headed west again. Will not give up on winter until at least mid April.

You've got that shit right! ![]() I'll be heading somewhere West for the weekend of March 25/26. Looking to get a Tuckermans trip on the books for late April. Between now and then there will be lift served EC skiing!!

You may be waiting too long, the little headwall is already gone.

Yeah, that's a possibility. However, I don't think winter is done just yet. To go earlier I'd have to take that last weekend in March, and I'm not sure I want to pass in a trip out west.
Last time we went was in May and I'd be happy getting back with more option available in the ravine, even if we have to hoof it out again...

There's not much to it, just follow the crowd on a warm spring day. Get there early to grab a decent place to park, have breakfast at the lodge (they make a good buffet). Make note of where skiing stops on the Sherbie for the trip down. You might also want to pack microspikes if you can't ski all the way down, the hiking trail can get mighty slippery. There is usually a working well for water at HoJos (although I have been there when it was broken and if you did not pack enough you were thirsty). Goodmans book describes all the many paths down from the rim. Not being a fan of crowds and preferring a relatively safe landing zone in the event of a fall, I prefer Hillmans to the main attractions - which usually involve a conga line to the top, however even Hillmans can develop a crevasse in the late spring. Enjoy - it is addictive.

Would be cool if we were up there at the same time. One trip, late season with limited options, so I'm no expert on routes and such......but logistically the trip was a success. Confident of pulling off another one!
We did one day last time up, up Friday, ski Sat, back Sat night. Will def look to get a full weekend this time around. Drive up Friday. Stay at Joe Dodge, no worries about parking that way. Packing is tricky, bringing enough but not too much. That pack gets heavy! Up the trail, yeah, follow the crowd (or hopefully not crowd). In the bowl route choices have to be made, which can be tricky. For a full weekend it brings Hillman's or Gulf of Slides into play, in addition to the ravine proper.

Our climate is fucked. Nope. Our climate is fucked. And we have a President who doesn't believe in climate change and wants to dismantle the EPA.
