Broski :

My role then at SUNY was Chief of Staff served as chief planning , sponsored research and governmental affairs officer  .

At that point worked closely with peers at all 4 colleges in the Associated Colleges of the St Lawrence Valley Consortium , dealing with joint academic programming and articulation programs and governmental concerns .

Later on as a President of a smaller school, i was abit more involved with admissions for our kids wanting to transfer . MY ADVICE FWIW  pick a topic that you are passionate about and write clearly , concisely and proof it , then  proof it again and then when you think its perfect.....edit it. šŸ˜‰

Thatā€™s basically what his guidance counselor told him and he decided to write about skiing. His mom is somewhat skeptical.

Not having been part of the process I would not know for sure but my guess is the essay is fairly late in the filter process. If you didnā€™t make it in one of the final buckets your essay probably wonā€™t get looked at.
However I have heard stories to the contrary and my data is getting stale.

I wrote about climbing a mountain or some shit.

Just tell him to make it about how, with hard work and perseverance, you can overcome obstacles and achieve your goals. College admissions officers eat that shit up.

I forget what my daughter wrote about.  My son wrote about his visit to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, and the effect that experience had on him.

With the road trips you guys have taken, and the differences Junior  has seen throughout large swaths of our great Nation....Iā€™m sure he could wax eloquently about how such enlightenment has shaped him as an individual.

All good suggestions. He wrote about skiing Blockbuster, plus a bunch of challenge-yourself-work-hard-practice-not-afraid-to-fail stuff

My grand daughter wrote about visiting Dachau. When I read it it moved me to tears. It didnā€™t get her accepted to Harvard.

Whiteface season pass through the Plattsburgh ski club in $299.  Thatā€™s a pretty good deal!

An even better deal than my sonā€™s Whiteface season pass through Plattsburgh for $289 is the Jay Peak season pass he is going to pick up for $99.

Plattsburghā€™s fourth annual ā€œRail Jamā€ is tonight.  With support from Jay they set up a terrain park on campus and have a rail riding competition.  At the event he can pick up a $99 season pass.

While Iā€™m jealous of his season passes, Iā€™ll will get up to Jay for at least one weekend this year to ski with him!
