I’m very open to the possibility that mountain lions are back in NY but that looks more like a bobcat to me.

I saw that story as well. Judging from the tail that was def a bobcat.

It's still  amazing to think of these big cats wandering through NYS. Man do they travel a long way.

They are not wandering they are looking for Putty.  What a man will go through to get to the secret stash.

I saw a bob cat grab a fish out of the reservoir I was fishing at.  lots of splashing on the other side of the bridge at 5 in the morning. Ran up over the bank to the other side to see him backing out of the water with a fish in its claws.  Backed into the woods and gone.  Catfish.  I caught nothing that morning.

I know for a fact these cats were around in the Dacks in the 30's as my Mom would tell stories of them canceling school because of them killing livestock. All the men in town would go out to look to terminate them, and they did.

Yeah. I could believe that. I buy that these are long-range wandering animals too but Esopus is south of Kingston, on the west side of the River. It’s not all that far from Westchester but it’s not right next door either and it would have had to swim the Hudson or else walked across one of the bridges. Could be the same cat I guess but who knows?

Nice --- it's fun trying to put the pieces together. My buddy who used to work for the DEC always said. if they're around show me a dead one, meaning if they're around in NYS one will eventually get hit by a car. He also said it's very possible and also very likely that long range wanderers do pass through.

Like you said, who knows.
