That's true. But calling yourself compassionate leads itself to think that someone who doesn't agree with you isn't. But again you are correct. You didn't say that, I inferred that. |

I can't agree with you Camp. Things were different when us dinosaurs ruled the world. if you believe that the middle class is shrinking, health care costs are rising, retirement benefits are disappearing then you quickly find that it's only the upper income family kids that can go to college, the others need to go to work at minimum wage jobs right out of school and just feeds the cycle of poverty. Other states do this, NY should too.
With regards to $12k for room &. Board, take 3 kids in an apartment - 36k/yr can rent some nice digs.

yeah, those R&B prices seem crazy. my room in the frat house was 800 for the semester. lots of Ramon noodles. and 60-80 hour work weeks painting houses in the summer and on breaks helped paid most of my tuition. (and some help from mom and dad)

If you think that saying nice things about yourself means that you have an inherent disdain for others who aren't you, I have some bad news for you about the incoming President. |

That's cool with me PeeTex. We don't have to agree.
I think free college sends the wrong message. I'm all for middle ground on this but not the free shit, cause it ain't gonna be free. Our tax dollars will pay for it. Shit man! I already pay school taxes and don't have kids. Now you want me to pay for your kid to go to college too. Nope. Ain't gonna do it. |
I have a hard time with the paying school taxes too! I should get a tax credit for not contributing to the #1 problem on the planet - too many people!!!!

BOOM!! Not everyone see's it that way tho Scotty. Kids gotta have top notch shit at school these days. Cars, flat screen TV's, video games, not to mention the housing. I live in a SUNY town and some of the student housing is nicer than my damn house. It's almost like all this fancy shit has become the norm. I don't get it. I blame rap music and video games |

Exactly. It is completely backwards. Then we pay people on welfare to keep having more kids. I'll never understand that

That's ok. Won't try to convince you otherwise, won't call you a racist, xenophobic, bigot, irredeemable, or any other slanderous insult. I'm not a liberal...

13k to go to school is cheap. Get a job, aid and loans. There is money to be made of kids want it. Fuck the free lunch. You can get free college today. Join one of the armed services.

Army college benefits are not what they use to be, it may cut your college expenses in half at best. Not a lot for risking your life.

Here is another way to look at the room portion. Room (double) and gold meal plan at Geneseo $12264. Subtract the gold meal plan - $3800. Room for one person $8464. and for 2 people $16,928 divided by 8 months is $2116./month for 2 people in a room that does not have a bathroom, kitchen, A/C in GENESEO!!!! When my son moved off campus we paid $3300/per semester (upfront) for a bedroom in a 3BR/2bath apt, not including elec and cable. What a racket. |

To some extent tax break for kids or families are from an era where it made more sense. It would be hard to unravel because so many benefit from it. Maybe a start by killing deductions for more than one, or maybe two.

Next academic year, my college, Clarkson will charge 48,000 for tuition. 8,000 for housing, and 6,700 for meal plan. 62,700 total list price. However, word on campus is that no one pays more than half.
Room and board is about the same price as a SUNY school, while tuition is astronomically more.
I've lived in New York my entire life.

Thanks PeeTex. It's nice to see some of us are mature enough to get along. |

What you say makes sense, Harv. I'd be on board with something like that as long as those who choose not to have kids are rewarded equally. |
