It's a shame how dry ADKs are, hoping for some rain before October holiday.

birch leaves just turning brown and falling off in the higher elevations.

On a positive note, the mountain bike riding is the best its been ever!  We'll be ripping well into November.  And remember we leaf blow so come on up and stimulate the local economy like good democratic socialists!!!

Leaf colors are weeks behind normal for this late in Sept. Lets hope they get to their normal brilliant peak soon, it's a great show.

Acorn crop is  way down this fall, warm winter on the horizon.

That article is BS, it's all about the acorns and whoolly catapillers.
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.

Article begins with this:
The truth is, the acorns on the ground today are the prediction of weather conditions two or three years ago.

And ends with this:
"Weather was a very important factor in the study," said Abrahamson. "The production of acorns definitely is not forecasting but hindcasting the weather."

Re: Fall Weather 2015

there was such a bumper crop of acorn in Wilmington last year that we invent a point system for getting hit with fallen acorns.

1/2 point on a bounce
1 point leg or arm
2 points shoulder
3 points back
3.5 points core
4 points head shots

this year way less acorns.

The apple crop is heavy because a late frost got the blossoms last year. It's the acorns I tell you...

I play golf on a course that winds through an apple orchard. The apples are the best I have had in years, although they seem small.
For  the first time in many years I have not pulled a tick off myself. The tick population seems low this year. Not sure what this has to do with this thread. I am bored.

Apple trees out in the open totally kicked ass this year. Those groves in the woods didn't have any fruit on them to speak of. Strange
