If you look at the area near the bottom of the lift, they could possibly let people in from the other side that the queue normally is. Hiking up Skyelark isn't easy, and might not be possible if they're blowing snow at that time.
Normally Skyelark is the first thing covered when that lift opens for the season, but I don't think that will be the priority next year. The extra snowmaking to cover Superstar will be brought in, and all the other snowmaking will go to North Ridge, Snowdon, and Ramshead, areas not blocked by the viewing area. If it were up to me I'd find some way to have the event and keep the lift and an adjacent trail open so that anyone with ski equipment could move around and watch from different angles. Unfortunately there is just no trail in the entire resort that allows one to see it from the bottom.

There is no way to get to that lift except thru the spectators plus the FIS does not allow the public on a lift that goes over the course. The lift will be crossing the course at the drop.

Another reason why that location sucks. Since the lift crosses over no one can get on it, and you can't see up the course. Obviously they had no trouble selling tickets so it was a non issue, but I'd never drive hours to see a WC race if I was going to be watching most of it on a TV screen, which is what will happen because you can't see above the last drop. It's not acting spoiled, it's considering the issues with the location they picked.

I don't think you can see the entire course of any sl or gs on the WC circuit from the bottom. It has nothing to do with Killington. |

The location is perfect. People aren't going to K to ski that weekend, they are going to watch the WC. Tickets sold out in what, one day or something like that? I know you have this big notion that the WC shouldn't shut down major parts of the mountain but you just don't understand how big this thing is. Who cares if you can't see much of the course and you are watching a monitor? People are going to see the best racers in the world at a major WC event that hasn't been in the northeast for as long as I've been skiing. People are going because it is going to be an amazing and cool event to be a part of and we can cheer on USA's best. And who knows when this thing might happen again. Get over yourself and try to see this through the eyes of the other 99% of people rather than through your own preferences.

River is right. Ever WC course I've seen always has a roll over near the bottom.
I don't plan to go without my son but it's still a really cool thing happening.

My view is relatively simple. If I'm going to dedicate a lot of time and resources to watch a professional sporting event, I'd like to be able to watch it live and not on a TV. Obviously many people don't see it the same way, since they sold out tickets, so the issue is moot.
My view has nothing to do with terrain. That's going to be a non issue because any thinking person who wants to ski and doesn't want to watch the WC won't go that weekend. Most people who are going to watch the WC have no intention of skiing, so the only people who will be are the competitors, and the ones who want to be there during the event, but not necessarily watch the entire thing, so if all the normal terrain for that time of year is open, minus the Superstar Area, there won't be any liftlines at all. The day after the WC, all the Superstar terrain that was previously covered but closed for the event should open back up, which would mean more than average terrain open for that time of year. The water injected snow/ice on Superstar will definitely make June a possibility come spring. All in all, this will benefit Killington greatly both during and after the event, and hopefully the money they bring in will pay for some much needed upgrades.

You really can't say if there is going to be lift lines or how much terrain will be open. It's July. The weather in November is the be all deciding factor and that won't be known until we are alot closer to the time.
