Opening day rumors 2014

I am envious of all of you.  I will be working till Thanksgiving...not skiing till friday after...hoping that the new titanium and bone cement hold...looking forward to turns...and wishing they would come sooner.

Thinking Cold Thoughts
Hello All!

After a successful “First Night” of Snowmaking this past Friday night where the temperatures allowed snowmaking from the summit down to the top of 360 and down West Way and part of Grand Slam, we are pretty much dialed in to our snowmaking strategy.

The issues we encountered on our system shake down have been remedied and we are ready to go for our first stint of snowmaking for real.  Start up will be Thursday evening with the goal of having enough snow down for some turns on Saturday.  That goal is pretty optimistic giving the short weather window and the marginal temps, so maybe it might be Sunday instead. Of course, it will all be up to the actual weather we get and NOT the forecasted weather the weathermen talk about.

So we are ensuring that our snowmaking water reservoirs are full to the brim, the mountain is ready, our pressure system is “auto-started”, and the crews get some much needed rest.

We are chomping at the bit now just waiting for the cold weather to get here. Our focus for opening trails will be on the Summit/Back Chute, West Way, North and Lower Glades, Upper and Lower Sling Shot, 360 and 180. We will also be making on Lower West Way and Grand Slam  but they need more time to get open than the interior trails. If time and temperatures allow we will expand the trail network by making snow of Left Bank, Grouse Run, Exhibition East, Raccoon’s Den, Mogul Thing and Cricket.

Think Cold Thoughts and we will be on our Snowmageddon way!

Jiminy always does a VERY impessive job blowing snow. And they do it somewhat under the radar. They traditionally have as long as a season as the big boys in S. VT.

Guns are on at Hunter and Windham.  Proved from the webcam.

@ Grillman, good luck with the titanium, hope all goes well for you.  Am now in my own enforced vacation from training, lucky if I can be on snow at New Years.

What'd ya think Camp? Any chance Greek opens this weekend? Heard anything?

Great but if you read their PR post they said they are waiting for cold temps and certainly wasn't cold enough last night

Haven't heard. I seriously doubt they'll make it this weekend, last I was there (tuesday) they still need to get the new snowmaking pipes covered up. Also, just got back from letting my dogs out at lunch and no POW guns were going. With temps staying cold I'd say next weekend or by T-day fer sure. I really don't care tho ---- heading into hibernation for 10 days.

edit to add: Deadline to be ready to blow is the 15th. Massive pipe system upgrade from 8 to 10 inch pipe. Tripling water pressure to the mountain.

T day would be great for GP, I had an unexpected day off on 11/5, ran up to K for the day, awesome Spring conditions. My jones has since returned.

It's been a while since Gore opened before Thanksgiving.  I think Coach is right.  No weekdays before Thanksgiving for Gore.

In other news Bell is going to start making snow "this week" with a projected opening on 11/28.
