If it's the day of the storm anywhere, it's going to be good.

No, I'm just proving Coach's point that if it is snowing, it is going to be good anywhere. I posted one picture that was from Mountain Creek, and we got 18'' from that snow which is probably more than Whiteface or Gore has gotten all season. The next day it was crowded as heck with 30+ minute lift waits and thousands and thousands of gapers. Also, I'm pissed that I never got to ski any powder out west in the 6 days I was out there, yet there was 9 inches the day before I got there which f***ed up our travel plans. I guess I have to go again next year, which certainly isn't a bad thing.

Is that an XCS trail? I can't tell which way is actually up or down |
to be fair, vertigo is common with a lot of snowy scenes, not just with pictures. sometimes i don't know what's going on even with goggles. new thread? |

It's Zero G which is the steepest trail on the mountain. I took that just below the steepest part. It is hard to see because of the snow and I would be clearly facing down if there were better visibility.

Man Jeff, I am so sorry that you have had to suffer through all that low elevation snow and all those flat trails in all that boring terrain when you could be basking in the 50 degree weather we had here today. I bet Z is just laughing his ass off at you for having gone out to such a rotten boring place. Maybe next year you can Vacation at Mountain Creek...
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.

Great trip!!
I had a similar experience when I went to Canyons/PC. (And I also added a day at Deer Valley - where nobody skis the trees and those 22" you got are probably untouched right now). Maybe Coach just didn't hit it right and it soured his whole opinion of the place - like snoloco and Jay Peak. Or maybe they're both complainers who will never know true happiness. Anyway, Jeff, looks like an awesome time. Did your friends enjoy it as much as you did? |
Looks like a wonderful trip..
I'm not a fan of the PC area , but you have painted it in a different light.. thanks for the report...

I guess the good thing about the market they serve (rich people that can't ski well) is that most of the gapers can't ski anything but flat groomers, so it leaves plenty of powder for those who can. I bet the lifts stopped a lot. I confess to being mostly on groomers when I was out west, but it was my first time ever skiing out there, I did not have the proper equipment to ski powder (76 width elans which are basically race skis), and I did get off the groomers on at least a few runs each day. If I go back, I plan to ski more trees/bumps than I did the first time.
You had it easy because the shuttle dropped you off where you can get to the Crescent HSQ. (If you had to drive there, you'd need to take a beginner lift which is always a big waste of time) to get to the real skiing. On some of my days at Steamboat, I had to take the beginner lift to get to the action because the other option was to burn 20-30 minutes in the gondola line. It stopped at least 3 times every day I rode it, even early in the morning.

I have to admit that Matt may be right. I have not skied it when things are good and powder makes it good. It seems that the connection to Canyons changes things quite a bit and brings more terrain into play. Staring in the PC village also seems to be better than the parking lots for access to the better terrain pods.
That said if it was this good here what was it like in LCC? It had to be crazy good.
if You French Fry when you should Pizza you are going to have a bad time

The dumb is strong with this one.
Jeff - you clearly had a terrible time, you just don't know it. Take our word for it, you hated PC. If you liked it it's only because you're a bad skier and don't know any better and you like to waste your time on chairlifts and you like fois gras on a silver platter while you waste your time on chairlifts and it's better wherever I ski which is where there is real skiing. |

Assuming you survive the stampede. Most of the time I'd rather see 8" of new snow than 18" in LCC because at 18" it's a total sh-tshow there. Every coin has a flip side. |

No reason to replicate those words or probably even comment on this in Jeff's awesome TR. But I can't resist. Sno how do you read those three reports, OVERFLOWING with stoke and come up with this? Jeff had it easy because the skiing was dreamy.
