Looks like a great trip. I'm filled with envy. Can't wait til I accumulate another vacation week next year. Maybe I can finally get something like this together

Glade Runner hacked my account. JK, I'm just pissed that Jeff is getting powder at what's supposed to be one of the worst ski areas out there. I only got 3 inches in twice the days out west. I had a great time, but I think I can do better.

Those excellent shots really capture the fun. It was what I was trying to explain. I am glad you caught some snow. Skiing out of the base of PC up to McConkeys to get to the south edge of Canyons is a great idea. Dreamscape is a fun spot.
I guess you had a good time? |

Just for future reference.......envy is no excuse for pissing on someone else's experience. It's one thing to tongue in cheek call Jeff a sob, but to try and harsh Jeff's stoke and, yes, perhaps good fortune......is just $hitty.
You've also wished rain upon people in the past when you can't have snow. None of that ever comes off as good natured from you. All that $hit is bad karma, son. No wonder you weren't rewarded with face shots in Steamboat!

Glade runner couldn't hack a loogy. Leave him alone, he has enough anger issues. |
Well it might not be Snowbird or Hunter but......
I think I could manage to find some fun stuff there for a few days. :) Nice pics! You scored! I haven't been there but from looking at the trail map it would be nice if there was a hsq serving the majority of terrain on Jupiter Peak. That zone looks fun. If I lived there I think it would get old riding the 2 or 3 lifts it takes to do that circuit. Edit: I just looked at the trail map again and I was wrong. It looks like one lift and some short hikes to lap a good chunk of the goods. |
Snowbird and Hunter are in two different worlds in terms of the skiing experience. Hunter is providing one of the best products on the ec now, thanks to their great snowmaking capabilities, but they're not providing anything close to western conditions. I do admit I was out of line earlier in this thread. There really is no mountain that I would NEVER ski. There are a few that I wouldn't pay to ski at (Jay Peak, Okemo, Shawnee), but I'd still go if it was for free. I wouldn't pay to ski at Park City either (partly due to Vail being ridiculously overpriced in everything), although I may take it off the list due to this report. Over the 3 days Jeff was there, he got the goods more than I did in 6 days. I'm going to try and talk my dad into going out west again this year although it probably won't work. My spring break is the last week in March and at this rate, I don't think many ec mountains will still be open by then.

Take back what you said about Jay or I hope it pours buckets. |
Earlier I said I'd never ski there under any circumstances, free or not. It's already pouring buckets down here, so you got your wish.

No sh#t? It was a snarky comment and I mentioned Hunter to make a point that....if you live on the east coast and think Hunter is sweet you can't hate on PCMR. Snowbird is a better mountain I would agree but if you can't have fun at PCMR when there is fresh powder to be had you are not a skier.
Why the Jay hate? I had one day there in the early 90's and the trees had some of the deepest powder I had ever seen on the east coast. The tree runs are loooong too. Again, it's no Hunter, Vernon Valley/Great Gorge, or Stratton but..... |
He had one bad day there, so it is mountain non-grata and worse than any hill the pocono's. |
Spot on. And he's an expert on Park City, having skied there none times. |
I said I wouldn't pay to ski there, mostly because you have to drive past several other good ski areas to get there, including Killington, Stowe, Gore, and Whiteface. Why drive past them when I could have a great time at any of these mountains, for a mountain that can be a total crap shoot. You either get almost western quality powder, or icy shit conditions like I had there, or like what Z had last year. Now this is a PC thread and not a Jay Peak thread. I wouldn't pay to ski there since everything is ridiculously overpriced because Vail's business model is to nickel and dime you in every way possible. This means Manhattan prices for parking, 150 dollar lift tickets, fine dining prices for cafeteria food, etc. Jeff mentioned in the other thread that he wouldn't pay to ski there either, but he went for free and it looks like he had a great time. I'd probably have a great time if I was in his situation too. On 7,300 acres there's gotta be some decent terrain, and if it's free why not take advantage of the opportunity.

Ummm......every mountain can be a total crap shoot, just about every resort is overpriced, and I'm guessing that you, personally, don't pay a whole lot to ski anything.
Soooooo.....less complaining, pontificating, and judging things you generally don't have a clue about and more enjoying whatever opportunities (good conditions or bad, bubble lifts or no) come your way would be a good thing for a young man such as yourself! Grow up to be the kind of skier who has, can and will happily ski anything and find the positive virtues to extol from each experience, both good and bad, rather than growing up to be some bitchy little yuppie/hipster gaper who can't be happy without donning his Bogner to drive his Beemer to the hill for direct boarding on a bubble lift!

Sno - $150 is not right. You can buy a ticket online at PC's website for tomorrow for $107. You can buy a Feb 26 ticket right now for $101 on their site. That's still expensive, but MUCH different from $150. Last I knew you didn't have to pay for "regular people" parking at the what was the lot at the Canyons where the cabriolet over to the village was - that might have changed.
Just over $100 isn't that bad. If you've never been there, PC would be worth a try in any normal year if you're heading to Utah for a week, IMO. |
I draw the line at 30-40 dollar parking that's somewhat close. I've always hated parking lots that require a bus and avoid them like the plague. The policy at all Vail mountains and many others in the west is that if you're not VIP or paying Manhattan prices for parking, you can take the bus. There is NEVER enough capacity on any shuttle operation to handle every single person who has parked in the free lot, so there's usually a huge line at the end of the day. Parking lots that require a lift are better, but there's probably still a huge line during peak times.
