I agree...I would fall off my chair if they blow a flake of snow on the west side in time for Xmas week..
They will be looking to cut payroll too..

Harvey and Z:  Hunter has, in all but last year opened every lift by Christmas.  They're the best equipped mountain to do it, and it's why they typically do so well that week.  Mount Snow typically gets it done as well.  I'm sure you won't see snowmaking plans be more aggressive that in past years, but Mount Snow and Hunter will most certainly outperform ORDA in early season snowmaking, as they always do.
Opening Way Out to get a few people on the chair isn't really that exciting to me.

Re: Peak Resorts Reports Results

My expectations are completely realistic, and are achieved by most ec mountains, ORDA being on of the exceptions.  I'll be following the snow reports as I always do, and I would be surprised that given cold temps, Hunter won't open the West Side within a few weeks of the time they usually do.  It typically opens well before Christmas, so I'd expect to see it right at Christmas instead.  Keep in mind that everyone was saying that Hunter was going to scale back their snowmaking dramatically last year, and they actually did more than in previous years.  I was saying all along that they'd be doing the same or more.  Look who was right.

You don't even need to argue with me because none of this will have any effect on my ski experience since I won't have a pass to any Peak Resorts property.  My new home mountain is Whiteface.

I'm going to college 1:45 away from Whiteface, so that's where I'll be skiing most often next year.  My normal residence is still downstate.

Hey I was just saying if Peak doesn't meet your expectations next year you can blame it on Jeff's stock short!

I've never made money on a stock I bought with a single digit price.  Stay away from them.

I don't plan on buying any stocks for now.  Save that for when I'm making entirely my own money (hopefully in 4 years).

I'm convinced the two industries to not invest in are skiing and the airlines

I was planning to go to the Psia Masters academy in December which usually is at Killington but they moved it to Mt Snow and I think I would be bored to tears by 5 days skiing pre Xmas at Mt Snow when Peak is in financial distress and limiting blowing snow.

What's wrong with investing in airlines?  Maybe because they keep nickel and diming their customers so people don't like them?

Like the ski industry, it's shaky at best.

Boeing might not be a bad investment. I don't know what I'm talking about though.

Both airlines and ski areas are as investments highly dependent on the following
Weather
Energy costs
Require high capital expenditures requires high use of debt
Have periods of seasonal low utilization
Highly dependent on consumer confidence and disposable income

To get the stars all to align is just too much to ask long term.  Sure you can make money short if you buy and sell exactly at the right time but long term it's a sucker bet.

Peak closed Hunter and Mount Snow on Tuesday and Wednesday this week due to r*in.  I don't believe any other currently open ski areas will do that.  Definitely trying to cut costs.  Can't really fault them though since likely no one will show up on those days and it preserves the snow.
