Re: Skier lost on Whiteface

Given they just opened W trail it adds a lot miles of places he could have headed off trail.  SVG would be where I’d look.  If a couple of locals put in a sucker track into there someone might have followed.  If you go way skiers left it would be tough to find with two feet of snow.
Another option Could he have wandered into the Slides?
Snowfields?
Anywhere off approach
Lots of places at WF

By now you would think they could have worked a dog thru the whole lower Mt
I think it’s got to be the Lookout pod which is the hardest to search

I’m starting to think this guy is on a beach somewhere with his girlfriend.
Edit
Retraction on my other comments
I meant no disrespect
I do hope he is on a beach somewhere though as that is the only happy ending to this

I hope so, but I really think you are in denial about the hazards we ignore every day in the mountains. It’s not Disneyland out there, even if there’s a gondola.

Wow. Our biggest fear. We typically ski with radios though now thinking, we need to get the kids whistles too for their jackets.

Hoping that this person is alive. You never know.  This story reminds me of what John recently went through, thankfully he made it out is back skiing again.

And seriously are those the best photos the paper could find of WF
A 7 year old with a cell phone could have shot better photos than that
Here’s a few my dad took...he was skiing on Thursday:

The dog was on Approach Sunday.  I tell ya, when you start to look around, you realize how many places there are to look.

I'm shocked they haven't found his body yet.

Does anyone know if they're still searching within the ski area? It would seem as tho he may have wandered OB.

It is pretty incredible they still haven't found him. And doesn't seem like they have any leads either:

Searchers are asking that anyone who was skiing Whiteface Wednesday, Feb. 7, between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. and saw Filippidis or who was using a Go Pro camera to contact them at 518-873-2750.

campy : John boy is up there now and tomorrow .  he texted. And said they are still out in force off the Wilmington trail area probably in SVG and there are other teams still searching other areas of the mtn

He also said Skyward and Cloudspin are skiing great as is Wilmington but lower mtn is boilerplate from last nite 's mixed precip

Scumbag risking lives of searchers. Deport him to a s-hole country with 0 chance of ever seeing snow again.

Charge him for all S&R costs then double it so he doesn't try this stunt again.
