Storm Speculation: 12/22/12

Tuesdays event was supposed to be rain, it snowed 5" at Gore (heavy but still snow). I will go with weather underground, 4" tonight and 3" tomorrow with a little rain mixed in. The real issue is the 30-40MPH winds predicted - the Gondi won't fly if it's that windy.

I had planned to take my family over to Jay Peak tonight to do the ski splash and stay for tommorrow but the hurricane force winds forecasted made me drop those plans.  There may not be a lift running anywhere in the ADK or VT Friday.

Was this a wise move on my part of an over reaction to the forecast?

Yeah, and even the NWS report that Jason called pessimistic predicted 3-7 for Northern Warren County . . . Seems like there's a consensus around 5-7 inches (maybe more up high as per Lionel). I don't see why this is anything but good news. Stop trying to pour cold water on this, Jason!

just started snowing here in Gansevoort, about 10 minutes ago.

Coming down hard.  Drove north out of downtown Saratoga, dropped 3 degrees in about 4 miles.  32 at our house now.

1.5" in Wilton
2" in Warrensburg- raining
3.5" in Stratford

Hopefully higher elevations at Gore picked up 4"

very impressive winds on Mt Mansfield

About 4" of wet snow here in N. Creek - temp is 32, my place is on the side of a ridge about 400' higher than town. Still snowing lightly. No wind. Forecast shows a change over about 9AM. It would be a fun day if I hadn't come down with a stupid head cold.

Thanks for the beta all. Gore is reporting 5 inches, White reporting 1" - but not sure if I am looking at today's report.  Usually WF is on it early so it may be legit.

Some kind of change in the Adks over does seem quite possible at least at the base areas.  Still it' my gut feeling that this will be net positive for the Gore and Whiteface. Platty still has some snow on the ground and trails that haven't had snowmaking yet so maybe it wasn't a wipeout for the Cats.

3" up here in Hinterland, looks like you guys in the Dak's are getting a Christmas present... Go git some everyone...

8" at gore according to Facebook!
Still only 1" at Whiteface but that seems very low since it seems to be below freezing at both midstation and summit(Whiteface website), so they might have just not updated. Can anyone confirm the 1" or give a higher number?

very unique storm as the cold held tough in a small portion of the adriondacks, snow at gore last night and rain at whiteface.

Snowing hard here along the St Lawrence for a couple of hrs this am , heavy wet stuff but good for building base

It is nuking rain at Whiteface.  This sucks.

Definitely a weird storm. Gore snow, VT rain, WF rain? What about at elevation? Any chance it's snow at the top?

it's my fault..me and my stinking pessimism..

upslope and lake effect should start to kick in....cold should be here to stay and maybe a big one middle of next week
