Radar and reports from Cats and SoAdk seem to be confirming a transition to back snow.

My thinking is I'm going to take Thursday morning off work.  Forecast is now calling for snow all day wed and well into Thursday.  The winds are going to be high Wednesday so I'm thinking lift access in the morning is going to risky but safe for Thursday.  Don't have many vacation days left to spare so playing it safe.  Plus they are blowing Skyward so better shot if that opening Thursday I'd guess.

Scotty is going to skin up if there are no lifts running but heck I'm not as young as him.

I was under the impression this was a ADKs favored storm - thought VT got the shaft for once... only 4-7 at WFM thought that was in the bullseye where they were calling for possibly 18".  Guess it's not over yet.

It's pretty rare for NY to beat VT in a storm. It does happen (Valentines 2007).

So far looks like Cats and Central/NoVT were winners. Cats were def wet.  Be interesting to see how Gore's number (reported from the base) compares to WF number.  I'm guessing they will report more than 4.

That six inches should be good for Plattekill.

Was watching the radar last night and it looked like Sugarbush was being absolutely pummeled.

Storm was pretty whacky, the Albany area had an area of very heavy precip (mix of snow / sleet / rain) that would have been a heavy wet snow at gore but it had trouble making it that far north.  Still Gore should have recieved about 6-8 inches.  Maybe some more late tonight into tomorrow.

I got a txt from Shaman about an hour ago saying he'd gotten 6 inches (about 1000') but I wanted to use Gore's official number from 1500.

FYI Plattekill is not opening today (just called) and Lake Placid area got more than 5-8".  Jackrabbit is reporting at least a foot -- http://www.jackrabbittrail.org/conditions -- and a local contact said 10" at his house at 2000'.

Just called Gore and Emily said 4" of wet.

By the way, hello all, I have been poaching your site for years from just west of Philly.  My wife and I plan on heading to Gore Friday, may wait to see what today brings.

This storm is not over, in fact the majority of the snow for Gore may still be in the works.

from NWS Albany this AM: "AN ADDITIONAL 4-8 INCHES IS POSSIBLE IN
THE SOUTHERN/WESTERN ADIRONDACKS"

On another note, what has been very interesting this December has been the discrepancy between the long-range national weather service temperature maps and reality.  When I look at the extended forecast for North Creek on Wunderground,  there does not seem to be any major thaw coming next week, as had been advertised.   This is good!

Not familiar with the term "called". Is that like, something you do on a rotary phone?

Well, I guess it should be good for a little base (unless we lose it all on the Monday warmup). Storm ended up being a little disappointing for what I was hoping for (a widespread 15" down and a nice hard freeze for a bomber base surface). Wonder how the ADK summits did. If they picked up that 15" and get 8-10" more from a few friendly waves, that is definitely good news.

Last year was like "the year without a base."  As a result, the woods didn't really come into play until February. I think that this year is starting out on a much more positive note. My reading of the extended forecast does not show any major warmth on Monday. I think we dodged a bullet.
