Re: The Snowmaking/Operations Outlook Thread

Report shows that snowmaking was shut down on Wilderness.  Also showing Lower Mac, Victoria Shoot, and Upper Parkway open.  Doesn't show snowmaking on Upper or Lower Mac, so lower must be open on natural.  Is Lower Parkway and Thruway typically done before of after Lookout?

Also looks like Skyward was closed again to blow more snow.  Might ski Whiteface on Wednesday on my way back up to school, so I hope it's open by then.

As of now I think I'll ski Gore on Saturday and WF Sunday.  I miss Whiteface, but I think I'd spend more time in lift lines than skiing on Saturday with it being a holiday weekend, Chevy promotion, and Lookout not open.

When is the dark side opening at Gore? Burnt Ridge?

Looks like possible r*in and ice on Wednesday.  Another week of snowmaking down the drain and even more probability of Lookout being left to rot for another year.

Especially with this dumpster fire weather forecast.

Whiteface is reporting Upper Parkway as open.  Is it open to Calamity Lane or only to Upper Thruway?

I'll be really pissed if they leave Lookout to rot for another year. But TBH, I remember many years when January didn't turn out so good, but Feb turned out pretty good, and I would have nothing wrong with Lookout opening end of January or even early February.

It's still pathetic when all other ski areas opened all their lifts by Christmas, or at least early January.

Would all of the ski areas in your "graded" thread be considered major?

All the ones in my original post were what I consider major ski areas, except Mount Creek.  Harvey asked me to grade the smaller areas.

Since nobody asked, I'll tell you: those are a pair of channel-lock pliers modified by a grinding wheel (and a Swiss Army knife) to be the perfect snowmaking tool for these babies here, stole this pic from FB. I'm assuming he won't mind. The venerable, nearly unbreakable K2000 snow gun. God bless America.
