Re: Today's Ride

Telemark Dave
My ride a few days ago ..  brand new trail, loamy and slabby.  Name: Body Dump
it was a dumb fun ride, until the precambrian shield dealt a death blow to my derrailleur- actually the hanger, thankfully.
No time to McGyver a singlespeed setup due to a billion, billion black flies..  I’m thinking they’ve mutated such that DEET is gravy to their taste ..

Anyways, simple solution, run-a-bike back to my car.  Works every time!

Typical scene. Slab, loam, slab

Loamy switchback..

Bike broke good!

Its just a flesh wound!  Impaled by a pedal pin..

Next days ride was a bit more mellow.  Even the scenery was calm..
nothing better than a pic of a bike leaning against something..

Brant lake

Pretty good riding up there. Big climb to start. It appears they have more work to do. You can tell they are going to switch back the climb more over time to make it more enjoyable. It's either up or down not much flat.  It's a nice build little lacking in the miles.

I always liked the association with the Canadian Shield.

I'm curious about the either up or down statement? I find the top to be rolling. Also what climb did you do that was not switch backed? Stairway to Heaven is all switchbacks, yes, some crux areas but mostly flowy up. Did you by chance climb the hiking trail? If you do all the bike trails from the parking lot up Stairway and down Stairway it is about a 5.2 mile ride with close to 900 feet of climbing.

It's 4.6. I went up stairway. It's switchbacked but they're are places that I envision more. Just my take. Went over the. 9 trail and took constellation back. I went down to where I took that shot. Then had to backtrack to constellation it turned into the hiking trail. Went up the .25 trail that loops back into itself. The trails are made well. It's takes a lot of work/time/people to build that stuff.  I bet that too 20 people 4 8 hour days to get done what's there. Kudos to the guys that did it.

Trails were laid out by Steve Ovitt of Wilderness Property Management and were professionally built by his team with a lot of volunteer labor. The whole hillside is problematic in that it is mostly ledge and very little soil to work with. There will be more.

Beebe park.

Great riding down the taconic. 40 minute ride from Albany. Old school trails and many miles of them. I like going somewhere on a ride, This does that. I think it borders to Harvey woods park with another trail system.

Ski bowl

Nice trails. Wanted to go across to Garnet. Couldn't figure it where  to go when I got to the top of the lift.

From table rock at the top of Long Trail you can connect to Rabbit Pond Trail, yellow flagging leaf blown trail,  which takes you down to Rte 28 , the connector trail back to Ski Bowl is blocked by a beaver dam. At this time it is not  feasible to connect to Garnet Hill, it is still in the planning stages.
