I know the title of the thread is "today's ride" but I thought you wouldn't mind a few pics from last month's ride in Cuba.
First you have to put the bike together after taking it out of the box:
I brought my own bike multi-tool and mini pump, so assembly was easy on the cabana deck. We had some pretty sweet donated bikes, mine was a vintage Specialized Rockhopper in mint condition, with an overly cushy seat. For those that don't know, long story short, we bring donated bikes to this small resort, ride them while there and leave them with deserving locals.
Every now and then, we encounter a donated bike in its new life. This bike went down two years ago, virtually brand new. It is now a pickup truck, well-equipped for banana sales and gardening jobs.
This wasn't one of our bikes but I was impressed by the fish.
I think the same fish appeared later that day on the lunch grill:
But back to riding. There were three of us with bikes this time, keen to ride. We would arrange to meet at the coffee bar at 7 am, quickly down a doble espresso and a Clif bar and hit the road before it got redonkulously hot. This day we went out the coast road, the favourite ride in the area:
On another day, my pal Robbie suggested we ride to the reservoir. His memory of the route was vague and we ended up on the road that goes up and over the mountain. We rode, hike-a-biked a bit, then gave up.
There was a nice view through the fog of sweat:
On the way back down, we went off the road and followed some fun singletrack goat paths. Or maybe sheep paths. Fun and well groomed nevertheless.
Time for breakfast, let's get down this mountain:
