Thanks Jason!

Scotty- Before the monsoon rains arrived we were so dry that we were pulling moon dust out of a 3 to 4 foot dirt mine. But now we’ve had 12 inches of rain on some locations up high on the mountain in just two weeks.

Found out they had built a dedicated bike path some time ago on Sandy Hook national park, which I live near, and I hadn't been in the park since probably a elementary school field trip, so my wife and I decided to check it out.  It's about 15 miles round trip through the whole park, and has some nice views of the Highlands, Sandy Hook Bay, NYC, and northern Monmouth Cty beaches.  Some pretty cool old military history there as well with many of the structures remaining.  Would recommend it to any of you local NJ guys if looking for an easy ride near nice beach areas.

My usual MTB riding spot in the hills in the background:

Tip of the hook, Verazzano and lower NYC in background:

It's hot and smokey in the PNW... perfect conditions for a big gravel grinder

Big Gravel Lines up high along the spine of the Wenatchee Mtns

Big pavement descent with 2.3 inches of rubber and a Lauf on the front end made this feel like a Powday on wheels... from here it's about 3000ft to the valley below

Then the real fun part... 4000ft of ascending over 9 miles back to the Beehive.

Typically, I make this ascent on the MTB after a 12 to 15 mile technical plunge on Mission Ridge or Devils Gulch. It's not a technical climb, but it's never an easy finish. In order to complete the DG circumnav, you start this ascent with 60 miles on your legs. Needless to say, a suffer-fest of biblical proportions begins to manifest itself somewhere between mile 65 and 70... a textbook mental shit-show, the kind of shit that makes you shit yourself into believing that you won't shit yourself if don't take a shit before you get in the car and drive home... lessons learned.

Dehydrated and delirious is how this one ended up. By far one of my better efforts so far this season.

So we got a mile of newly rerouted trail open on that project I’ve been working on the last two years. This is my daughter enjoying the fruits of our labor.

All the rain was staying south.  We got some help this week but we are in mild drought conditions still.

Our new beta maps are in local bike shops and stores in LP, SL and Wink.  Between the three towns we have north of 70 miles.  Plus another 15-20 in e-town

When I was little we had this camera/binocular looking thing that you inserted a round cardboard paper like disc with film squares of national park scenes into the top. I loved that thing.  RA’s pix remind me of that thing

There are two herds actively grazing around the Beehive now.... if I saw any of them, I may have considered this option.

My parents weren't the adventurous type.  We didn't ever go too far on vacations.  We'd go the beach in Connecticut... kind of a drag when you lived in a beach community in Rhode Island.

The Viewmaster was my gateway to the mountains... It's our generation's version of virtual reality.

I’ve taken my kids to the beach there- very cool spot. I need to get back to explore by kayak some time
