Honestly I don't really care about how upscale WF is or whatever is going on with Centerplate.
I just want them to fix their snow report and actually be making snow again. Report shows snowmaking on 2 short trails, when they need to get the Summit open for Christmas. Not sure what the hold up is. It's well below freezing, and there's been some ncp which should've raised the river.

So, is the river actually low enough to hinder current snowmaking ? Anyone know ? That's a small river. Prolonged drought could be very bad juju for Face. |
Last time I was there (Friday), the river was low, but didn't appear to be hindering snowmaking operations. Could only have gone up by now.
I'm hoping that the people who update the online report are just being lazy and not updating it properly. They seem to always be a day behind in updating things like trail openings and snowmaking.

The river is fine. I am thinking something is broke or they did not update the page or they are just messing with you.

Thanks for the info tjf. In the month I've been a passholder, I've found Whiteface to be notoriously bad at updating their snow report. Frequently it showed trails as closed that were open, or vice versa and reported lifts open for days that they didn't even attempt to open. Can't fact check it with the webcam because that's broken too. Gore and Belleayre do a much better job reporting their terrain expansion plans.
Back on topic, I've found the cafeteria food to be ridiculously overpriced. Chicken fingers, fries, and a soda will set you back 15 dollars. Double what that will cost at a typical McDonalds. No passholder discount either, because Centerplate runs the food service and not WF. Hunter and Mountain Creek ran their own food service, so they did have passholder discount. No practical way for me to get around these prices either. Don't really have the means to bring any food, as I don't have a kitchen in my dorm building. Also, if it's a busy day, I want to stay on the upper mountain and not return to the base till the end of the day. Brown bagging lunch requires one to eat where they started, which means going to the bottom on a busy day, and a long gondola line to get back up.

$4 Stewarts sub and a coat pocket solves the problem.

Sno, you complain an awful lot for a high school senior. Grab a loaf of bread, peanut butter and jelly and stuff some sandwiches in your pocket and eat wherever and whenever you want. No kitchen or big budget needed. Damn, when I was around your age, we used to skip the store and go right to the condiment bar. Saltines and packets of peanut butter and jelly and voila, free lunch, saved our money for beer! Toughen up a bit, son. (Sorry, I couldn't resist...even if this is another of one the Coach's bitch threads).

Yep. You're never going to find McDonald's prices at a ski resort snoloco. Sorry if that comes as a shock to you. When I went to college, as part of our meal plan, dining services would make you a bagged lunch if you ordered it the night before and have it ready for you the next morning. So we'd eat breakfast, grab our lunch, and be on our way to the mountain. Ahhh, simpler times at expensive private school. |

Haha, what fun on the NYSB! Should I post on a Coach bitching thread or a snoloco bitching thread? (Although, it's not like I'm in a position to call kettles black here, with my political bitching threads in the OT). Maybe we will all realize eventually that none of this really matters and we're all just killing time until we can ski again. |

Won't work. I leave for WF at 6am every time no exceptions, and they don't open the dining halls till 9 on weekends. Clarkson doesn't do what you're referring to either.
Wasn't ever expecting McDonalds prices at Whiteface or any ski area, but didn't realize the prices were that different.

Petit Homme, stop at the little souper market in Wilmington and purchase deli sandwich. There are white slips on top of the deli counter with all the options. make checks next to want you want and slide it politely to the ladies behind the counter. Sandwich, chips and a drink for under 6 bucks. The little souper is famous for the size of their sammies! they also make excellent breakfast sammies for 2.49 cents. carry in a small backpack which you can safely leave at mid. and stop bitching so much.

Stuff a fat sandwich in your pocket. Eat it on the lift. Hit Stewarts (or such) and get a breakfast sandwich. Even better, if you have a fridge and microwave, Walmart sells bags of precooked, frozen sausage patties and also scrambled egg "patties". A bag of muffins and cheese- you're in. They're actually very good. I seldom go inside when skiing. |
