Escaped from my office to in some runs on my lunch hour today. Skyward was really nice and now you can either go to Niagra or ski around coaches corner to webers way. Both are really good.
I also checked out Wilderness and it was awesome. I'm so sick of ice and its so much nicer skiing on this fresh blown snow. I'm super glad i made the effort to get out in the hill for some runs today. It made my week so much better. Should be a really nice MLK weekend if we get snow and not rain.

^^ Nice! High five for U!!
We skied the toll road last night after work. From the pump house up was sweet! From the pump house down was good! Beautiful moon lit the summit up like a humongous Christmas tree!! Snowing @ WF now. 3-7" is the call but I'm thinking 12+ higher up!!! Let's go Mother Nature!!

Website reporting 4". Can anyone verify that? Hoping for more obviously. With temps staying low hopefully the snow tribe can unleash hell.
A bad day of skiing is better than a good day of working

Raining here at Whiteface right now. Hoping it changes over.

It started dumping around noon and was still coming down hard when I left around 2:30. I really can't even guess about amounts as the wind was howling. The trails were in nice shape with a few inches of fresh snow on top. The snow was very fast and the skiing was very good. Very bad visibility in the morning. It got a little better as the day went on.

bundle up! expecting some snowdrifts in all the usually locations today! wind howled like an Alaskan wolf pack overnight. Blew a screen off one of our windows... pretty calm here now but I'm expecting gusting winds at elevation....

How was Whiteface today?
I have an offer for a ride and lodging to ski at Whiteface on Monday. Considering it. |

normally its best to hit WF early but today would have been better if you slept in. Super windy had everything but bear to Lift I open this am. By lunch the gondi got going and the summit was warmer than the bottom
not great skiing - it was firm and fast with wind blown off sections though there was piles of pow to be found here and there. On the same run you would be smiling from the skiing and then checking to see of you loosened a tooth filling for the chattering across the ice. damm it was cold today same for Sunday but less windy

Agree with the late start for today, but I though conditions were pretty good. Mountain Run was particularly ugly, except under the lift, but Victoria was pretty good, Lower Mac was awesome, Skyward good ... all in all, given the season we've had so far, I thought these were some of the best conditions I've skied yet. Tomorrow should be great, assuming the wind doesn't crank up again ... cold, but with some overnight grooming, I'm looking forward to a great day.

I would expect Monday to be very good, given today's conditions with the wind. Also, the temps will be much more reasonable on Monday.
Go for it!!!

Spoke to a friend who lives there and he said very icy and limited terrain. My friend who made me the offer decided it was too cold as well, especially for the two kids.
I'm going to stay closer to my hot tub. We got a good amount of powder here in CNY, so I think I may just go back to Greek Peak. I took today off from the slopes because yesterday was so good and I wanted to take advantage of the xc skiing. Leaving powder to ski in frigid conditions on ice didn't seem prudent. Will definitely be at Gore next week. |

Noon time starters were the winners Saturday. Real cold in the am. Once things started spinning it was game on. Essex was soft knee deep all the way down the left hand side...even late in the day. Sky to Victoria was my run of the day. Lots of deep wind blown. Was over my knees most of the way down. No wind on six and blue bird at the top. Mac was fun but the natural was where it was at for me today. Trees are filling in. Won't be long now...

knee deep most of the way down??? either you are 3 feet tall or are a really good story teller

We must have been at different Whiteface Mountains! I'm not saying it was GREAT, but it was pretty good overall. As for "ice", I don't think "ice" would be the correct term for yesterday's surface ... wind-blown crust would be more accurate, the difference being, you can put an edge into crust, not so much with ice. As for limited terrain ... there were plenty of options ... the only "major" trails not open were the Wilmington Trail, Upper Mackenzie, Upper Cloudspin and Lower Parkway. Without the wind, today should be great ... though frigid!!!

I have video of it. I don't tell stories and I am a little taller than three feet. Try slowing down.
