Whiteface skied really well today in the morning, but things turned South pretty quickly. By late morning, things were getting pretty rough again.

That said, Skyward was a very welcome addition today!

Happy New Year to all.

Dude, C'mon.  You've skied Sky literally thousands of times, scores of times after storms of 10" or more.  Yesterday was not top ten.  And I'm not just sayin' that because I'm bitter that I wasn't there.

Don't mess with his enthusiasm. That boy has spirit. And spirit encourages hustle. And you can't teach hustle.

it was really pretty good...no ice..it was just all soft, all the way through. never got skied off. I recall a few times when it was better, but not many.  And honestly I think it was more the cold and ice cream headache I got that was the issue.  I though last year under guns was better myself.

I would never get into a debate with you on this, but suffice it to say, if I was someone who had taken time off from work, driven a couple hundred miles, paid a good deal of money for a ticket, paid for a hotel, etc., I wouldn't really be interested in excuses or whose fault it is ... I simply wouldn't be likely to return. To arrive at the mountain in the morning, to find that the gondola is not running on an absolutely frigid day is aggravating enough, but then to be told that the mountain needs to shut down for an hour and then to have it happen a second time is too much.

There are too many choices available to skiers in the Northeast, and unfortunately, I can't imagine too many people who would be willing to put up with this kind of thing.

I don't really blame management at the mountain, in fact, I think Aaron has done a GREAT job since he took over, with what he has to work with. There have been a lot of positive changes. The problem is the politicians, but unfortunately, the embarrassment is borne by the workers at the mountain, and those of us who generally try to promote it. Burying your head in the sand and pretending everything is great is ridiculous.

I'm confused.  What was the reason for the shut downs and what do the "politicians" have to do with it?  I just have no idea what you are saying.

The shut downs were due to the power company cutting power to the mountain. As I understand it, the lifts have diesel backups that could be used.

As for the politicians ... money. You can't continue to cut spending and expect to continue to provide a quality product. I've been here for two weeks straight and I've lost count of the number of lift problems in that two week period. If you're not spending money to maintain equipment properly, you're going to have problems.
