Whiteface today ... in a word ... embarrassing.
why?
I would never get into a debate with you on this, but suffice it to say, if I was someone who had taken time off from work, driven a couple hundred miles, paid a good deal of money for a ticket, paid for a hotel, etc., I wouldn't really be interested in excuses or whose fault it is ... I simply wouldn't be likely to return. To arrive at the mountain in the morning, to find that the gondola is not running on an absolutely frigid day is aggravating enough, but then to be told that the mountain needs to shut down for an hour and then to have it happen a second time is too much.
There are too many choices available to skiers in the Northeast, and unfortunately, I can't imagine too many people who would be willing to put up with this kind of thing.
I don't really blame management at the mountain, in fact, I think Aaron has done a GREAT job since he took over, with what he has to work with. There have been a lot of positive changes. The problem is the politicians, but unfortunately, the embarrassment is borne by the workers at the mountain, and those of us who generally try to promote it. Burying your head in the sand and pretending everything is great is ridiculous.
It's easy to be against something ... It's hard to be for something!
