No skinning at wf this weekend. Too much equipment on the limited Terrian.

Whiteface Ski Area management is requesting that people don’t skin at the ski area on this saturday. They will be running a lot of grooming machines and need people to refraine from skining and skiing. Thanks for your understanding.

The skiing was much better than I expected and it was less crowded than normal opening day as well.

They had lower Northway open instead of the normal Excelsior turns section.  I heard there is an issue that they working on the pipes on Excelsior that dictated this.  Lower Northway us very rocky but they did a great job of covering it.  There was just one spot at the connection to upper there the skree comes diwn that was a tad thin.  Other than that I don't think I saw any rocks.

One big difference between opening day at WF compared to other eastern ski areas us that we have so much more vert open.  These are not the short 600 vert runs that Killington offers.  You start to feel it in your legs after awhile.

My son and I got in 4 runs 10k vert in about 2 hours.  At first there was a 3-5 min line at the Gondi but by 11 it was gone.  It got a bit bumpy and rough later in the morning.

Based on the forecast I'd expect much more open terrain next weekend.

Still snowing, but the wind has picked up like crazy! And yes, I'm currently at work.

I'm starting to think about where to ski on Saturday.  it looks like it has been snowing a bit in the Lake Placid area from the web cams, but Whiteface has not updated the report for a few days.  Any ideas as to how much natural snow they might have received?

Snow report said 5 inches.  I think that was posted this am?  17 inches YTD.

I think it said that yesterday as well, that's why I'm curious.  Snowing hard up there right now.
