LOL -- right?!!! News flash It's still gonna snow!!!! |
Really, I keep swearing (to myself) that I’m going to stop letting Sno troll me.......but I just can’t help but post my contrary (and more realistic) opinions for the benefit of people reading these threads who might not be familiar with Whiteface, or who aren’t playing games (like Sno is).

So they're all of a sudden going to decide they care about experts again and finally make some more snow on Skyward? Question is what lifts they will have to close to do it since they have laid off all the snowmakers already and moved some over to lifts.
On the report there is no mention of restarting snowmaking.

There is zero chance the Summit is closed for the season and also zero chance it doesn't snow next few weeks

Thank you for the dispassionate common sense. It is appreciated.

Unfortunately the outlook from my son skiing today is decidedly not optimistic. It was crazy warm today. I changed my hot tub water in short sleeves.
Rivers were running on the snow all morning at WF Parons is done Rocks are popping thru everywhere There are a lot of big races being hosted including a regionals and uscsa nationals so snow will need to be blown on the race trails as those bring in big money to LP IMHO Wilmington should not have been blown at all and other brain farts were made like Lower Parkway but that is all split milk now. Lookout needs to be shut down and core trails need to be blown to salvage the Spring. Let’s see how things shake out. Unfortunately the temps while ok at night are warm during the day looking forward.

Sno, if you're autistic, just fucking tell us. I'd feel bad, but better knowing there was some underlying reason to your social disorder.

WTF is going on with whiteface snowmaking these days? Three years ago was a very bad winter, but I was there in March, and although Lookout was closed, The rest of the mountain was covered solid. Like really solid. And they were blowing snow in March full send. Not half send like they did in March last year. Last year after the warm weather, Parons was in good shape as was most of the rest of the mountain. Thruway was toast, but no huge deal. They also made snow on Hoyts and LOB last year, and this year they did't. Yet you're telling me that Parons run is done. How about Follies? Clearly something is wrong.
I know this weather sucks and all, but I'm simply comparing to other similar situations. Looks like WF is dropping the ball, or am I out of my mind?
I'll take boilerplate ice over wet snow any day

I don't think there was anything wrong with getting Wilmington open. They had the opportunity to do it and it was covered quite well and even though it was a mess last weekend it helped make lines elsewhere somewhat manageable. I would not have gone to Whiteface last Sunday if it wasn't open. Also, at the time they made snow there they didn't know this warmup was coming. Lower Parkway was the real mistake where they wasted 3 days of snowmaking and it never opened and by then this warmup was in the forecast and that snow was needed to keep the summit going.
Not really sure what one would gain from just closing Wilmington if there's enough snow just for the sake of closing it. If there still is enough snow, then they should continue to run the lift for as long as there is so the week they spent trying to open it doesn't go to waste. I do agree that if it is toast that it is not worth making more snow on to try and salvage at this point. The other thing that's to blame is trying to be "intermediate friendly" and only resurface intermediate trails and that's why they're about to be closed for the season. Unfortunately if they do make snow again it will probably only be on intermediate trails, so the spring is still toast.

I believe they had a group of VIPs in that March. It was a good decision to restart snowmaking so late in the year as the season finished on a date near- or as expected.

upper and lower sky are open on the report...

I was waiting for the “Summit Quad may be delayed” alert to clear before pointing out that the summit was not, in fact, done on Feb 21. The current report doesn’t have U/L Skyward open, but it seems that Coach (who once in a blue moon goes overboard like Sno ) was wrong, Paron’s is not done. I suspect that Skyward being closed has more to do with the hard freeze last night (making it firm as hell today) than with the lack of snow on part of the head wall.

Skyward is definitely done for the season but it looks like grooming was able to salvage Paron's and W Trail.

Tell me, oh great one, what Carnak says about Wilderness. Is that also “done for the season” or, perhaps like Skyward, is it just ungroomed after the latest thaw-freeze, and locked up tighter than whatever deluded grasp you’ve convinced yourself that you have on reality??? I suppose Essex and Upper Northway melted out too and are “done for the season”?
