Same as Plattekill it seems most of the Whiteface guys are assholes on the internet, which is odd because almost everyone you meet there is so nice.

What, wait....nice?? I thought they were always blowing smoke in your face, blasting music in your ear, and disrespecting your singles lines!

You need to just relax, stop giving us a reason to bust your balls.  Really, declaring things done for the season a couple weeks ago?  I hope you realize now how silly and unnecessary that drama was.  Quit busting on WF and go out and get some!

Re: Whiteface Conditions

I'm mainly referring to the people I've met from here.  You and Scotty are having a competition over what names to call me.

I wasn't the one with the music story although I had a similar experience at Hunter.  The gondola stoners and people that tried to cheat the singles line I don't believe were locals.

The reason I've been tough on Whiteface this year is because they have their priorities all messed up where it's all about the high end amenities and not the skiing and they gave up on snowmaking, lift, and trail maintenance to do that.  They deserve to be harshly criticized at every opportunity for that as nearly all their problems can be traced back to it.

Wait what? I am confused. Where did this come from?

Sadly very few Platty locals here.

Sno, Sno, Sno....sno need to explain, I get it.  You saw the smilie, right?  Read the humor in the situation.  I’ve met all those guys, too.  Skied with them all except Grillman.  They, we, are nice people, no doubt.  But interweb discussions boards are an easy place to get busted on if you give people a reason....and you give people plenty of reason!  Unnecessary reason.  That’s all I’m sayin’!  You headed back to WF this weekend?

I already have a trip booked to NH/Maine.  And then I'm on spring break.  Skipping class Friday is tempting, but I'm not sure if my parents would be cool with it.

And Faceforme, enjoy your shiny new bar that faces the wrong way.  The rest of us go to Whiteface for nothing but the skiing.

Hmm....two different threads, regarding entirely different mountains, and different people....and you comment on nice people, whom you have met in person and can tell they are nice, and they all bust your balls on the internet for some reason?

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign.....

Have fun up in NH/Maine!

It's hard to design a bar that gives you a view of the trails when you're face down on the floor drunk.  Personal experience.

I was just pointing out that you said Whiteface has its priorities mixed up, but I'm guessing, that they're first priority is to operate a business that can actually make money and be successful, and they're doing that the way they think is best ... which may not be the way that YOU think is best.

Is that difficult for you to understand?

Re: Whiteface Conditions

As Z said a while back, spending as much as they are to try and be something that you aren't never ends well.  There are hundreds of case studies proving this is a poor business strategy.

Whiteface is not and never will be an intermediate mountain and this disaster of a plan is actually going to get people hurt since Whiteface blue trails aren't really blues.

I wouldn't mind them trying to broaden their market if it didn't destroy their amazing expert product that I got to know the place for.  And the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Look at what Killington is doing.  They're improving their intermediate terrain (which they were also lacking in) by building a new bubble chair on Snowdon.  Instead of scrapping the lift that is being replaced, they're moving it to an underutilized part of the mountain to better serve primarily expert terrain, and improving access in and out of Bear Mountain which has two of their signature expert trails.  Everyone's a winner.

Whiteface on the other hand didn't open Hoyt's or Lookout Below, and didn't cover the summit well so there's still rocks on Skyward despite the recent snow.  They also gave up on preventive lift maintenance and the Little Whiteface lift has been closed on multiple weekends due to maintenance problems (if they even had the staff to open it in the first place), causing unprecedentedly long lines at the gondola.  Winners:  people who sit in the lodge all day.  Losers:  anyone who actually skis.

Awesome photos
Wondering when slides are opening

To Sno’s point we went thru all that grief not for a bar.  What they built is a sit down restaurant.  Hard core skiers don’t get wait service food for lunch.  We used to have 150+ feet of bar top.  Now we have what 20?
