We used to have 150+ feet of bar top.  Now we have what 20?
Wait --- WHAT!??

why would they do that --- that place gets mobbed
I think it's safe to assume that they believe they're going to make more money this way. Are they right? I guess time will tell.

For what it's worth, last season, the people I go up to the bar with at the end of the day stopped going to the Cloudspin ... I'm not entirely sure why, but I just went along with the flow ... This year, since they re-opened, we're back in the Cloudspin ... Once again, I'm not entirely sure why!

Apparently the changes have been fairly well received.

Alright then. Sounds like all is OK in the land of Cloudspin Lounge.

I was just shocked ---- I mean there's a ton of people in there for beers after skiing --- the old bar was massive and handled the crowds well. I can't imagine that many people in there with what, a third of the bar space?? But as long as it works who the hell cares as long as you get your beerZ

They kind of separated the room into two sections ... a restaurant section, with lots of regular tables, and the bar area, which has a U-shaped bar plus a moderately sized area of high-top tables (about 10 of them).

There's just a LOT more space dedicated to tables now and a LOT less space dedicated to a physical bar. I think they're looking for more table service rather than direct at the bar service. You can also get table service at the high-tops in the bar area if you prefer that over walking over to the bar.

How crowded do you think will be on Friday?  I just had a class cancelled so I might go, but won't if it will be a zoo.  I went on a Friday back in December and it was packed for being midweek.  Hopefully they expect a larger than usual turnout and run the Little Whiteface lift.

The line for the gondola is certain to be snorrific, and there’s no chance they run ALL the lifts (you want them to), so there’s certainly NO WAY you could possibly have a good time.....so best you NOT go!

Sheesh.....at least we know you don’t have wet dreams because you are surely one of the rare peeps who could screw those up!

It's not like running an extra lift if it's going to be crowded on Friday is too much to ask.  Gore ran both their gondola and the ADK Express all week.  Belleayre runs the Tomahawk chair on Wednesdays and Fridays.  Whiteface normally doesn't run the Little Whiteface lift at all midweek, but I'd like to think that they'd at least consider it on a Friday, during a Canadian vacation week, with feet of snow during the preceding week.

I'll probably just go and ski mostly the Summit Quad which has better terrain anyways.  There are two trails worth skiing that you have to ride the gondola to get to and those are Empire and Upper Mac which would just be my first two runs (before the masses arrive).  Everything else you can get to off Freeway or the Summit Quad.  And everyone would probably shun W Trail and maybe they won't groom it, and that's a lot of acreage to find powder in.

I'm not certain if the way the place is configured now if the final product. If it is fine with me I never have a problem getting a beer.

Any chance that this snow (whiteface site claims 28''' today ???) will be enough for them to open up the rest of Lookout by Friday? Trying to decide between WF, Gore, and Magic (leaning Magic).

Zero chance.  They didn't cut down the brush and it's like 7 feet tall.  They apparently sacrificed both so they could build that stupid bar that's not really a bar.  It's the biggest fail in the history of New York ski area management.  Don't even get me started it's such a disgrace.

Based on what has happen on Mt Mansfield the last 2 days with 2 big separate skier involved avalanches on similar aspects with less snow load I would think the slides are a no go this week.  Trust me I am dying to ski them but don’t want to get killed in the process.  Look at the video there is a persistent  non bonded 2 foot slab sitting that ice we were looking at less than two weeks ago.  Mansfield side country is a close match in altitude and aspect for our Slides.

Rangers at Mt Washington are saying stay out of Avy terrain as well

Based on Mansfield and Washington I’d hold on a sick day.  If it does open it will be with full Avy gear required and space between groups.  If you don’t have Avy gear no need to take a sick day either.  Going to be very windy tommorrow which further increases risk.  Winds at elevation thru Friday 25-40 mph.  I don’t recall ever being in the Slides in high winds.  https://www.weather.gov/btv/recreation

Avy warning now issued for Daks

Best thing for the snow pack is getting it cut up on a controlled basis.  It would have been better that it got cut up between the storms like on Monday.  Back in the Jay Rand era they sent patrol and instructors in to ski cut it.  I did it many times though once I almost came back with poopy long johns.
