Whiteface - Lookout Mountain...estimated opening?

I will keep sending emails until I get a response, and/or Lookout opens.  The neglect of that entire section annoys me more and more each day, and there's zero chance of the situation improving unless I give them lots of feedback about it.


Is there anyone else here who pictures the staff at whiteface sitting around and laughing at Sno's "emails?"

"Hey, another email from Sno about Lookout."

"Fuck him, lets not blow it for another week.  Lets keep the guns on Sky...he probably cant ski in anyway."

"good idea, and next week, lets get Wilderness ready for the world cup."

"I dont know, we might get another email."

"Screw it, if we do, we can put the guns on Cloudspin."

Well, that last thought would be nice.

I can ski all of the terrain at Whiteface including Skyward.

No I don't think that's what happens because businesses (even government ones) don't operate like that.  Sounds more like middle school to me.

Beyond surprised that all of you seem to be against Lookout seeing snowmaking.

I am against your crying about the trail not being opened.  

How does one donate to Grillman and his cause? Is there a fund? Byom?

Sno, I think most if not all are annoyed at the fact of how you go on about Lookout not being open, which goes way beyond complaining, when you suggest what amounts to a conspiracy to not open it within Whiteface's management based on a single data point of it not opening the year prior.

And you started doing all of this on January 8th, when historically I do not think we can find a year that it has opened on or before that date. Right now theres a good chance it will be open the weekend after MLK which would put it about 2 weekends behind, and certainly before Presidents.

The next layer of your annoyance is your entitlement. Saying that as a paying customer you have a right to expect it to be open in a time frame of your liking. The issue with this is you purchased a pass with a contract agreement that clearly states they have no obligation to do so based on a number of factors. Given your supposed level of insight into Ski area history and operations you should have been well aware of the fact that Lookout has not in any year prior opened earlier than the week before MLK and to expect it given the sporadic weather the last 3 weeks or so amounts to ignorance on your part.

All of the information was available to you prior to purchasing your pass, just because you purchased it inspite of all that doesn't allow you to bitch on here or on Facebook. Whiteface is 81% open and thats not bad considering as you stated on Facebook "Killington is 90% open" with Whiteface lacking the massive profit generating system that Killington has: mountain owned hospitality.

I would love to see the emails you sent to Management.

Good work Grillman. Very funny. I know you're mostly kidding but you reminded me of some heinous abuses of power I witnessed from the old days. On two separate occasions I watched lift operators get pissed at a customer and repeatedly hit the stop button once they were in the chair, treating them to an extra long ride. I didn't and still don't approve of the vigilante approach to manners instruction but in hindsight it makes me chuckle. I wonder if sno has experienced any super long lift rides. Hopefully he's not so critical of the mountain personnel in person.

Or why don't we start a GoFundMe account for getting Lookout open! You never know, you may get a bunch of pissed off skiers who really want to to give ORDA extra money to get Lookout open.    

Although given the weather forecast, I am guessing that it will be two weeks if it opens at all putting us at the last weekend in January which I would be ok with.

Truth be told, weather or not Lookout opens will determine weather I do a mid-March trip to WF or not. If Lookout is closed I probably won't go to WhiteFace this year and I'll do a trip to Wildcat since I have a Peak Pass this year, and I hear it's awesome.

Aside from that, it looks like Gore will have all lifts open this weekend, and I will be there taking it all in for three days.

Sno, I will look into what that that snowmaking upgrade will cost. I'll report back when I have time.

Wasn't Bernie preaching free college, free health care, and all lifts opened at WF by Christmas?

I can see it now, a cold morning and SnoBlow loads the quad. The lifties load him in a loan chair. The lift mysteriously stops over an active snow gun while the snow maker, adjusting the gun, points it to the chair and turns off the air. 10 minutes is all it will take.
