Are the guns still up there as you mentioned earlier? If they are, I'd assume they were going to blow Wilmington in this next snowmaking window.
Might have made sense to build base depths in problem areas before the r*in so that they could go all out on Wilmington afterwards. However, if that doesn't happen, it will all have been a big waste.

they are going to need to resurface a lot of trails friday night to avoid going full ice face for the holiday weekend, I hope they ignore Lookout for the next week.

Totally agree. Priority now is resurfacing.

Ignoring Lookout for the next week will likely result in ignoring it until next year. They got a good snowmaking window this weekend and should put it to use while they can. Get the bottom done and then cover the top next week when the temps are less favorable at the bottom.
They definitely should touch up some high traffic areas on Friday, but during a busy holiday weekend, they should not be making snow on open terrain. It's very dangerous on a crowded trail if no one can see where they're going and not fun either. Also, appealing to Coach, it will suck for the instructors to teach over the guns. They should move snowmaking to a secluded area like Wilmington during the holiday weekend.

Why the hell did they piss away all last week blowing snow on open terrain when they knew there was going to be r*in on Thursday which meant they'd need to do it all again?
By the weekend, Gore is planning the following terrain expansions since last weekend: Echo, Cedars, Hedges, Tahawus, Wood In, Hullabaloo, Lower Darby, Little Cloud, and Wood Lot. Whiteface is planning the following terrain expansions since last weekend: For me at least, the decision for which mountain to visit is quite clear.

Dude, stop making yourself look like the spoiled petulant child that you are! WF is so far ahead of Gore at this point, it's not even close! AND, if you don't like skiing under the guns, then go the fuck home, as diehard skiers love it!!
Gotta go to know

I agree with this completely. Solid post, Coach. As far as the "recover on the bread and butter trails" or "open new terrain" debate, that could be a whole different thread. But Gore is clearly going in one direction (trying to open up new pods), while Whiteface is going the other way. I suspect it has to do with the layout of the mountains, and the fact that Gore needs the byways to be open in case it snows big and the trees open up. Whiteface, whose clientele is more interested in boring groomers, needs those groomers to be skiable, even in the absence of snow. Gore's decision is already making some trails that are normally fine (Uncas, Showcase) into icy luge runs by not circling back and re-blowing them, but I can see the long term plan there. A 6-10" snowfall and the mountain will be a playground. |

Whiteface is 77% open, Gore is 55%

Only problem with Gore is that a 6-10 inch snowstorm is not likely in the next 2 weeks.

Check that again tomorrow when Gore opens up the trails I mentioned earlier.
Gore is also bigger than Whiteface, so 60% open at Gore is more terrain than 80% at Whiteface. Uncas is in terrible shape because it's the only route to the summit and has way more skier traffic than it should. Showcase was pretty good yesterday. Belleayre didn't resurface anything when I was skiing there over the past few weeks, but they expanded terrain quite well. Were some trails kind of icy? Yes. Did I appreciate skiing more terrain that would've been closed if they tried to resurface elsewhere? Even more.

NE27......stop distracting the SnoShitShow with facts and knowledge. The only thing you could do that would be worse would be to throw in a little real life experience with skiing WF. Sheesh!!!!
We REALLY need a proper roll eyes emoji!!

Right now, according to those numbers, and the skiable acreage advertised by both mountains, Whiteface has 241 acres open and Gore has 236. About the same amount of terrain open.
Once Gore opens up their planned terrain expansions for this weekend, they will be well ahead of Whiteface, since they're not opening any new terrain this weekend. I may go on Sunday just to see how much of a shit show it is, but I think I'd rather not waste my time and just go to Gore.

The other facts are: Gore is opening 3.9 miles of terrain this weekend according to the lengths that Google Earth gives and what they've blown snow on. They also resurfaced some terrain. Wilmington Trail is 1.81 miles long, according to the same source, but takes more snow per mile to cover. Since both mountains have snowmaking plants about the same size, how could it have been impossible to open Wilmington this weekend?

Couple winter vacations in college I would go work at a mountains to get a pass. I made snow one winter at Sugarbush. It think you would benefit immensely to try doing that one winter. It will give you a better appreciation as to what goes into it as well as the limitations. You quote " We will go to tremblanc" Go ahead!! Don't you think you should check with the guy that is paying before you start spending his money. You have always been a spoiled little bitch in my mind but and I ignored you. I was not going to argue with a 14 year old kid. Its getting to the point I cant stand you and I have no idea who you are. Your dad should have kicked you more when you were younger. If he read your posts he would be embarrassed for you, your making as ass of yourself.
