Wow. Somebody just made some money.
I would not have trusted him to search my car. The cop definitely had major attitude. What was that he says at the end .." I can slap/blow your head off. " ? |

Apparently this officer cost Saratoga County $6 million a few years back.

While I'm all for law enforcement it must be universally applied. Glad he got arrested.
Years ago in the 80's I went to visit a friend in North Carolina. The people there, even older ladies, were afraid of the cops. We were at a store when the cops pulled in and the women with us whispered under their breathe " Don't look at them. don't look at them " What ? Later they said just looking at the police could start some crap that could very quickly get ugly - jail, prison on trumped up charges. To me, it was shocking to see law abiding older ladies in fear of the police. |
The Sheriff should get some heat for this guy too. I guarantee this is not the first complaint about this guy, just the first proof.

Right or wrong, the power of social media. Technology too

Haha, black people and young people being scared of police is one thing, but Old Ladies?!?!? It's time for Police and private security contractors to get lumped into the military/industrial/surveillance complex: military/industrial/surveillance/security complex. Don't worry, citizens. If you're not doing anything wrong, you don't have anything to worry about. |

From the article linked above by Sponge:
"We're not going to condone it. Once it's brought to our attention, we're going to deal with it." Do over: "We're going to speak with everyone of our officers to make sure they know this behavior is unacceptable, and will result in swift punishment."

The victim filled notice to sue today. Looks like he has a strong case.
Turns out, the victim has even more video of that incident plus the same officers had just previously searched the same victim inside a Walmart. His Atty's getting that video, too. |

Nope. "In 1999, the town of Wilton and Saratoga County paid $6 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the family of a 45-year-old man left paralyzed when a patrol car being driven by Glans smashed head-on into the other vehicle, according to a Times Union article on the case. Douglas H. McEachron suffered critical brain injuries and a federal jury found Glans was negligent in the crash. The deputy was responding to a 911 call and driving close to three times the posted speed limit around a sharp curve on Smith Bridge Road in Wilton when he lost control of his vehicle. Glans crossed into the oncoming lane and smashed head-on into McEachron's car." I was doing some landscaping work for a former cop in Saratoga. He was a city cop and was recently fired for assaulting someone on the job. They did it to "make an example" out of him, because apparently the problem is getting out of hand. Awesome. Goodbye Saratoga. Seriously. Don't fuck up, because you're probably on camera. At the same time, A buddy and I talked about this and the conclusion was if we ever get pulled over again, as soon as the lights are seen the camera starts recording. Better than the GoPro on cops idea. If someone knows there is a chance they could be getting watched, I bet they'll think twice about their actions. One of my favorite TED talks goes into it a bit. |

Social media has a lot of ups and downs like any tool that is put into the hands of humans. I think the proliferation and accessibility of video is a good thing.
When you look at the video of this Saratoga cop, it's REALLY hard to imagine that this is the first time he was an asshole. Contrary to what his mommy is claiming.

Of course you do. Riling up people with a constant barrage of out-of-context, perhaps edited, video that hasn't been vetted or reviewed by anyone except the person who took it and may have an ax to grind plays right into your wheelhouse. Moar social media where every miscreant with a keyboard, a camera and a grievance can shape the public debate!!!!! Yeah! Bring on the idiocracy! Snap Judgments-R-Us! It's a brave new world! Yes, cops can be assholes. Yes, cops can overreach. Yes, that's certainly what appears to have happened in this case. But even here I have some lingering questions. First among them: This video picks up in the middle of this confrontation. What did these guys say or do before they decided to turn on their camera? And what's with that smug look of satisfaction on that dude's face at the end? That's not how people act when they've been terrorized and abused. The whole thing is weird. And how in the hell does the fact that the guy was involved in a car accident six years ago have any bearing on any of this? It was a fucking car accident. I have one thing to say to those of you who get a little chubby out of all of this: May you live in interesting times. And, of course, the link feature still doesn't work on this chicken shit software you're still using. Because, you know, it's free. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_you_live_in_interesting_times |
An accident that was caused by exceeding the speed limit three times over because this guy clearly feels like he is above the law. Mandatory video cameras ON cops have dramatically reduced the number of complaints against the forces that employ them, and the number of dollars they need to pay out because of them. There are a lot of concerns, privacy being foremost among them, against the proliferation of broadcasting the videos but they sure seem to do a good job of keeping cops honest to the first part of the mission statement which includes "serving". Not threatening to rip off a kids head and shit down his neck for something he was within his rights to refuse.
As far as the other stuff goes, like complaining about the forums, just fucking piss off and find something better or start your own. Even if the forum software is free, running a site is not and if I ran it I wouldn't want to see some asshole shitting on it for no reason whatsoever. It's kind of like going to your aunts house for dinner and complaining when the food is bad, what the fuck is the point? Are you going to pony up 10k or whatever to fix the shit? Or just keep yapping about everything that bothers you nonstop like a tiny ass poodle that has no balls to do fuck all about anything anyway. |
