We ski out with headlamps.   My beautiful wife got me one for Christmas that gets brighter the faster you go!
I figured, but how much time is required after leaving the summit to get beyond the technical skiing?

Any how the hell does the headlamp know how fast you are going? :)

Either those trees in the background are growing sideways or the camera is turned

Depends on what we are skiing but we always seem to make it pass the "techncial skiing" in the nick of time.

I'm not sure how the headlamps knows but it does!  We were flying coming down Avi pass trail and it was super bright!!

Looks like a nice spot. That tree needs a little chain saw work.

Visited my personal glade for some preseason cleanup. Each year I ski it I note little improvements, taking that sapling out would make that turn a little easier or there is a really good line over there if I just could clear out some blow down. I got up early while it was cool and hiked in with loppers and folding limb saw and worked for about 5 hours. Opens up a new line, took out a few annoying trees and noted where I needed to come back with a bow saw to clear some leg breakers. Have another half day to put in and it will be a lot more fun this season.

Re: ADK BC conditions

Checked out a new spot today. A ridge that had seen a lot of logging in the past. Wanted to see if the part of it that was DEC property would hold promise. I think I made another good find, a hike up there after a storm to see how the snow settles will be the final answer but the woods were surprisingly open and the aspect is good.

I bushwacked up to the summit, I found where there were spots with open fields of ferns and there were spots so think you had to fight your way through - figuring out how to work a continuous line will take some trial and error. I knew there must be some old logging roads up there and I was not disappointed, I just had to look for them.

Not terribly high in elevation at the top, but a solid 1800' of skiable vertical and mostly low angle stuff. No work required here - nature (and past logging) has left some beautiful glades and easy access.

Marcy was wicked today, 60 mph winds and a icy snow pack.
Early season conditions  - crampons and snow shoes. Mid thigh drifts and bare rock,
Soon it will be time.

Never thought of that - but if I want to get serious I'll bring my Stihl Farm Boss in, that sucker will take down just about anything, I am thinking about that for a large piece of old blow down which is blocking a big section of the glade, the chain saw and a cant hook would make short work of that issue.

Hard to beat a chain saw,,,,, unless stealth is required. If so, see above.

Cordless sawzalls will cut quite a bit. I've dropped 8 inch trees with my Ni-cad on the atv trail. The lithium battery ones would put the old Gondi towers on the ground.
