Bird totals were exaggerated. Alta reported something like 30 this month, 20 this week.

You can't compare East and West inch for inch.

Apparently not, at least on the lower half of the mountain:

LOL I was taking Admin's word for it. Funny reading about the angry behavior in the tram.

I couldn't exactly figure out if Alta's ten inches where "this week" or not, look like last week but not sure. So Alta got 20 (or 30) and Bird got 40? How far apart are they? Do totals differ that much?  Jason said something about almost 4 feet, which is more yet. Great snowfall for sure but pics didn't look like 40 or 48 inches.

It ain't over yet either.

The Bird is reporting 40" from this storm...

You can walk from Alta to Snowbird..

So... Alta underreported, Snowbird overreported or you got 20" and 40" within walking distance?

I was looking at Squaw and Alpine yesterday, 207 and 166, respectively.

Even on dirt and rocks I'd have a great time at either. Plus Squaw has the mid mountain setup with the pool.

edit to add: those two places are also skiable between.

Ha. When we skied Jackson this year, our first day was the first time it snowed in a month. The tram line experience was.......tense. I had some angry young man pull the local card on me. It didn't work. The chain got pulled two people ahead of him. I think he wanted to punch either me or my buddy. Or both.

From a long retired Jay patroller:

"I can't begin to tell you how many times I'd be on pre-opening patrol work when the radio would crackle with marketing asking the overnight grooming crew how much snow had fallen. If they'd say 6", it would feel more like 4" to me as I was doing trail check. And then the morning snow report would invariably say 10". That's how imprecise (and unreliable) the process was, at least back in the early 90s. We're not talking here about a snow plot with a white board that was cleaned off at specified intervals throughout the day."

I'm still not sure that is right?  That total seems very low for the base an if accurate might imply organized collusion between Smuggs, Stowe and Jay's Summit reporter?  Maybe. I don't know.

Nothing stopping Mr Assassin from posting.  I think he just gave up.
