Just got home from the mountain today. Belleayre received about 2 inches overnight and really made for a great day.
Snowmakers were out in force on Deer Run and Dot Nebel is looking good for a weekend open.
Virtually the whole mountain skied excellent throughout the day with nice gripping packed powder.
It should be a great time this weekend for anyone coming up.
Good for you for chasing this, looks awesome. How was the drive up?
It was great - since I was in the back seat! Payback for my main skiing buddy who I drive up to Placid all season long. He only has a F250 so for obvious reasons we don't take that skiing. I have the beater subaru. Took another guy who was with us vehicle to belleayre...AWD. Thruway was pretty slow but we made good time still, maybe about 30 mins longer than on a dry day.
Poor Belleayre. Another prime weekend for business and another weekend the Super Chief craps out.
It was not a pretty picture today at the Belle, lots of waiting around. Super Chief went down a bunch of times, it's a shame, conditions were great and it was the most crowded I've seen in years. By 12 I was jaded from waiting in line and bailed.
What a difference a day makes, and 5" of fresh snow, powder everywhere, light crowds, no maintenance issues, no lift lines, it felt so good to ski today.
Skied Belleayre yesterday. A slush fest everywhere but it was great skiing. One of the better spring days of the last few years.
The snow was rarely, if ever, sticky.
But the way the mountain looks on a lot of the trails and the current forecast, if ORDA doesn't buck their norm and blow some snow in certain places I can't see Belleayre making it beyond the 2nd weekend in March. Its incrediable what a difference single week has made. The same day last week was an absolute winter wonderland.
Heres hoping for a nice March snow storm before then.

This is late, but Wednesday and Thursday were awesome - the bumps were very fun and forgiving. The current snow report says that when the temps drop, they will be blowing more. We skied four fun days at Belle with my wife and two little ones (6 and 3). I took my first chair lift with my three-year old - it was a blast.
Looking at the webcam this morning Belleayre looks to be in pretty bad shape.
They are going to have a cold period starting tomorrow to blow snow til Saturday night / Sunday Morning, but given the wide spread melt I don't think they have the snow making capacity to make much of a dent for the long haul.
The long term forecast doesn't look good. 3/11-12 could be there last hurrah.
